Bake Off viewers emotional as Amos breaks down in tears after exit

Great British Bake Off: Amos is eliminated

Fans of The Great British Bake Off have been left highly emotional after Amos became the first contestant to be eliminated from the show.

During the episode, Channel 4 viewers watched the 12 new bakers tackle three separate challenges to try and impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Although Amos had a wobbly start, he secured second place in the technical and despite his showstopper having a few issues along the way, he managed to present his orca whale cake.

Sadly, it didn’t seem enough to keep him in the competition as Alison Hammond revealed Dan was this week’s star baker with Noel Fielding announcing Amos would be leaving the tent.

Speaking about his exit, Amos told the camera: “As soon as I heard my name, I came out of my body.”

However, the baker had to stop mid-sentence as he became highly emotional and turned his back to the camera walking away to compose himself.

Apologising for his reaction, Amos wiped away his tears, gutted to be going home so early on in the competition.

It wasn’t long before viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the situation as many were left emotional.

@lanimae14 said: “How have I managed to cry 3 times at bake off [sic] Wish Amos could have stayed!”

@_erinz_ tweeted: “Nooo Amos, but he came 2nd in the technical [sic] Saku and Nicky have stolen my heart already.”

@Isla_Skinner commented: “Aw Amos I don’t think you deserved that – a bit of bad luck but also some great talent on show – chin up – feel the love for you here.”

@Lilmissarah791said: “Absolute scandal on the bake off, not Amos.”

With @sabrinajaine adding: “I’m sad for Amos, I feel like he had so much more to give!”

On Bake Off’s official Twitter, the account shared a letter from the eliminated contestant which he praised the other bakers in the tent.

In the letter, he said: “What an amazing experience I’ve had. I can’t believe how much fun I’ve had.

“What a joy to meet all the wonderful bakers I can now call my close friends. Feeling the LOVE.

“Will always remember my Bake Off journey as the fondest of memories.”

The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesdays on Channel 4 from 8pm.
