He started his career in Hollywood by starring in television films before getting a starring role on Homicide: Life on the Street. He played Detective Frank Pembleton on the series from 1993 until 1998.
Meanwhile, he starred in a number of hit films including Glory, Primal Fear, City of Angels Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Mist, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and She Said.
However, Andre is beloved by fans for his portrayal of Captain Raymond Holt on the hit NBC series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The show also starred Andy Samberg and Terry Crews.
The series followed a NYPD detectives and their work. Andre played the boss of the other detectives. The series ended in 2021.
Since the series ended, Andre went on to play Ri'Chard Lane in The Good Fight and was slated to star in the upcoming Netflix series, The Residence.
He won two Emmy Awards – one for his role in Homicide; Life on Street and for the miniseries Thief.
