Former Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has candidly admitted that leaving the ITV soap was "possibly the worst decision ever made.”

The actress, best known for playing Bethany Platt, was on the show for five years before she dramatically quit in January 2020.

However, in a recent interview Lucy has opened up about her struggles to find work after leaving the show amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I left in January 2020, which was potentially the worst possible decision I could have ever made,” she said on BTS With.

"We went into the full lockdown in the March.”

“I feel like in a way it did me some favours, in that I could get away from that character and not have the pressure that I needed to be doing something, because nobody was doing anything.

"The worst question you can get asked when you aren't working is, 'What are you doing now? What are you doing next? What TV show are you going to be on now?', as if it just works like that.

"So even though lockdown was horrendous, I sort of enjoyed that time just not having to worry about the fact that people weren't going to ask me that question.

"But again, it killed me because I was on a high when I left Corrie and then lockdown sort of fizzled that out."

Lucy then confessed how she "struggled to kind of find [her] place in the auditions" when lockdown finally started to lift.

"My agent at the time then started to find where she fit me, then everything just started to fall apart a little bit, in terms of work and acting," Lucy went on.

“I’ll be honest, I have struggled, it’s been hard – and I think that the main reason is because we were in a global pandemic."

Earlier this month, rumours of Lucy's return to the soap after three years began circulating.

The star was at the centre of some of the soap's most gripping storylines, including her character being groomed by salon owner Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper), whose business was actually a front for a sexual exploitation ring.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: "Lucy is one of soap’s most talented actresses who won lots of awards for her powerful portrayal of Bethany’s grooming storyline.

Bosses reached out to her a few weeks ago about the possibility of coming back, and told her everything they’d planned for Bethany if she agreed

“She discussed it with her boyfriend, and family, because she’s a mum now with a baby. Once they’d talked about childcare, and how best to juggle it all, she was able to say she’d love to return."

Lucy and her footballer boyfriend Ryan Ledson welcomed their first child in January, a baby boy named Sonny Jude.
