Bake Off winner details ‘sneaky comments’ not caught onscreen by Prue Leith

Sunday Brunch shares clip from new Great British Bake Off

The current reigning Bake Off champion Syabira Yusoff has shared some funny antics viewers missed out on seeing.

Syabira blew judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith away in 2022 with her impressive bakes as Channel 4 viewers saw her crowned the winner of series 13.

Speaking to Express.co.uk on behalf of People’s Postcode Lottery, Syabira shared what the judges are really like.

She said: “So Paul and Prue, they’re both really lovely but on the show clearly it shows Paul is the bad cop and Prue is the nice cop to counterbalance.

“But during the show you will see Paul say, ‘Yeah, this is not nice’ whatever it is, but after that he will come back and say, ‘Well, to improve this, this is what you should do…’

However, it seems as though Prue has a mischievous side viewers don’t get to see which have the bakers in stitches.

Syabira continued: “Prue sometimes says, ‘Yeah, this is nice,’ then she would come over and say little sneaky comments which was very funny!”

Despite the fun and games that seem to happen behind the scenes, the former winner had nothing but praise for Paul and Prue.

She added: “For me, in my experience, they’re both brilliant judges. Every comment that you see on the show, any critiques, they do actually come back with a lot of ways to improve it.”

The reigning champion confessed the duo are extremely helpful on the show and it helped her learn a lot during her experience.

Syabira’s behind-the-scenes confession comes as the new series kicked off last Tuesday as a batch of 12 new bakers entered the tent for the first time.

In the first episode, fans saw the contestants tackle a vertical-layered cake, blind bake the infamous Bake Off chocolate cake and try to impress with their showstopper.

As they had to try and create a spectacle which resembled an animal, there were a few mishaps along the way.

One of which included contestant Amos, whose Orca Cake failed to impress Paul and Prue.

In the end, he became the first person to leave the competition, which many viewers seemed to disagree with.

The next episode will see the remaining bakers create marshmallow-based childhood favourites, a custard classic in the Technical and an illusion-themed Showstopper out of biscuits.

The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesdays on Channel 4 from 8pm.
