I’m A Celebrity hunk Sam Thompson had a “nearly fatal” run in with a snake before he entered the famous ITV jungle.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 31, has quickly become a fan favourite on the festive reality show for his bubbly personality and can-do attitude. Throughout the show, the hunk has given every challenge his all and was recently appointed camp leaded by the viewers at home.

Now it appears as though this may not be the reality star’s first run in with some of the terrifying creepy crawlies. While the star continues to smash the gruelling Bushtucker trials, his girlfriend Zara McDermott continues to cheer him on from home.

But earlier in the week, the Love Island presenter was faced with yet another horrific snake interaction when one infiltrated the camp while the celebrities were fast asleep. The camp rangers were forced to handle the reptile after it hid inches away from his bed.

ITV producers later learnt that the reptile was highly venomous and was said to have been a cryptophis nigrescens, a creature that bites quickly and can be as long as 50 cm to 90cm in length. A source told the Mirror: “On Saturday night the camp had a very unwelcome visitor and the snake needed to be removed quickly and safely.

“The small-eyed snake slithered in and was seen venturing near Sam. Luckily, the rangers spotted it and were quick to act and swiftly removed the snake, without even waking Sam or the other celebrities.” Now, the blonde bombshell shared one particularly nasty incident the TV personality faced years before he stepped into the Australian jungle.

Sharing a snap of the pair on holiday in a Q&A, one fan asked how she felt about her boyfriend being rescued from a snake. She wrote: “Ok this is a funny question because when we went on safari Sam wouldn’t stop asking the safari guides about snakes … he’s got a weird obsession with them.

“He actually nearly got bitten by a snake (I think it was a black mamba but I may be wrong?) when he was on holiday with his family in South Africa and his dad managed to push him out of the way just in time!

“So after that near fatal experience he’s always had a weird obsession but also fear of them. So when I read the article that there may have been a snake incident, I was thinking I bet he thought it was awesome [cry-laughing emoji] but also may have been v scared [cry-laughing emoji] however I’m not even sure if it actually happened because I only read it in the papers.”

It didn’t take long before hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly poked fun at Sam’s expense over the chilling encounter with the deadly snake. As they opened Sunday night’s show, Dec said: “The celebs are really opening up to each other. It’s like I always say, the jungle is a safe space for everyone.”

Ant quipped: “Yes a safe space where you get thrown out of a helicopter, sleep next to deadly snakes and are forced to eat a cow’s anus.” Dec chimed in with: “It’s like I always say, the jungle is an incredibly dangerous safe space for everyone.”
