Cheryl Baker turned down by Strictly repeatedly as she doesnt fit criteria

Cheryl Baker has claimed that despite her best efforts and enthusiasm, she doesn’t fit the “criteria” for Strictly Come Dancing.

The singer, who rose to fame as part of Eurovision-winning band Bucks Fizz, revealed she is “put up for” the BBC show every year.

However, Cheryl, 69, has had no luck so far, as she claims BBC bosses have informed her she “doesn’t fit their ‘criteria’.”

The performer explained that she is reluctant to do more reality TV, unless Strictly or I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! bosses give her a call.

She told The Sun: “If you want to keep your name in the frame, you have to do reality TV.

“I wouldn’t do Big Brother because I can get a bit ‘shop steward’ and I think they’d edit it so I’d look like the b***h, but I’d love to do I’m A Celebrity.”

Cheryl went on to add that despite her love of dancing, Strictly producers have “never been interested in me”.

She continued: “My dream job would be Strictly. I love dancing but they’ve never been interested in me.

“I’m put up for it every year but they say I don’t fit their ‘criteria’.”

Cheryl did not elaborate on the BBC show’s co-called “criteria”, or give any further details about conversations with producers.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for the BBC for comment.

Cheryl got a taste for reality TV when she competed in ITV’s Dancing on Ice back in 2018.

However, she had to bow out of the series when she lost a skate-off to Donna Air.

Unfortunately, Cheryl has since developed a fear of the ice after sustaining an injury while skating on the show.

The star injured her right shoulder from a painful fall on the ice during training with professional skater Daniel Whiston.

Cheryl previously told the Daily Star: “It wasn’t for me, I was just too nervous of falling over and hurting myself again.

“I used to hate putting my skates on the benches, I really did. It used to fill me with dread putting my skates on.”
