Call the Midwifes Helen George red-faced as viewers spot rude distraction during BBC interview

Helen George was left blushing during an interview on BBC's Morning Live as her pet dog Charlie began partaking in some self-grooming as she chatted via video link.

The Call the Midwife actress, 39, appeared on the BBC show on Thursday, 30 November, to discuss The King and I with hosts Kym Marsh and Gethin Jones.

Helen joined the duo virtually, chatting to them via video link, and was sat in a bedroom with her pet dog Charlie lying on the bed behind her. While the focus should have been on Helen, Charlie upstaged her as he began licking himself in full view of the camera.

Gethin was unable to ignore Charlie's antics and joked: "You sure are the star of the stage, but quite frankly, Charlie has been the star of today's Morning Live."

Realising what was going on, Helen gasped as she placed her hand over her mouth and exclaimed: "Charlie, stop it!" before then adding: "Yeah, maybe this is a good time to say goodbye."

Morning Live viewers were quick to laugh at the moment on social media, with one writing: "Pets Will Always Upstage You: Helen George edition," while a second said: "So funny Helen George's cute dog Charlie on Morning Live, classic!"

Another penned: "Probably wise to wrap the interview there," and a fourth added: "BBC Morning Live Charlie was very funny in that interview."

Helen will be making her return to the stage in 2023 following The King and I's incredible season at The London Palladium and sold out UK tour. The 39 year old will reprise her role as Anna when the theatre production returns to London Palladium for a six-week run, beginning 20 January 2024.

Helen's interview mishap comes after she was seen leaving the house of her Call the Midwife co-star Olly Rix.

Helen split from partner Jack Ashton in July and Olly, 36, separated from his make-up artist girlfriend Natasha Fagri around the same time. The pair are said to be supporting each other after their breakups.

On Sunday, 11 November, Olly was seen leaving his West London home before he returned carrying two takeaway coffee cups. Helen was later seen emerging from his home carrying a large black bag and holding onto a lead as she took her dog Charlie with her.

A TV insider told the Sun on Sunday: “It’s been a tricky year for both Helen and Olly. They have been spending a lot of time together on set, walking their dogs together and chatting a lot.

“They both have respect for each other as actors and they are supportive of each other and dedicated to their roles on the drama. The changes in their relationships have caused a lot of upheaval.”
