Paramount Animation Developing Superworld Movie Based On Yarrow & Carrie Cheney Book Series
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Animation and Temple Hill have a new original animated movie in the works, Superworld, based on the book series of the same name, created and illustrated by Yarrow and Carrie Cheney.
Superworld is set in an alternate world where everybody has powers, however, a supervillain has taken over. The one kid who lacks special abilities is the only person who’s able to steal the Super Stone that keeps the villain in control – but to do that, he must pull off the dangerous heist while rallying his hero friends in a war against the villains.

Superworld: Save Noah, on which the Paramount pic is based, was published by Random House Childrenn’s Books in November 2022. Their upcoming second book in the series, Superworld: Destructo World, will be published by the same label in early 2025.
Brad Butler will oversee the project for Paramount Animation, I understand.
Yarrow and Carrie Cheney are a husband-and-wife creative team who met in 1992 when they shared an animation cubicle as freshmen at California Institute of the Arts.
Together they produced, wrote, and directed the animated short, The Very First Noel.
Yarrow co-directed the 2016 Illumination/Universal animated hit The Secret Life of Pets which grossed over $894M WW and served as production designer on Despicable Me and its sequel, as well as Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. Yarrow was also the lead director on Illumination’s The Grinch which minted over $526M.

Paramount’s animation slate under various labels is ramping up in a big way. This past there was Paramount and Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem which grossed over $170M WW. Their co-production with Spinmaster, Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie opens on Sept. 29. Then there’s Transformers One on July 19, 2024 and an untitled Smurfs movie on February 14, 2025 and Paramount and Nickelodeon’s The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for SquarePants on May 23, 2025.
