John Waite warns Strictly contestants dont fall in love with your partner
John Whaite gives advice to new Strictly Come Dancing contestants
Celebrity chef John Whaite has advised this year’s Strictly Come Dancing contestants “don’t fall in love with your partner”.
This comes just weeks after he declared that he fell for Johannes Radebe after they were paired on the show.
“God just don’t fall in love with your partner that would be…” he trailed off when asked what advice he would give the class of 2023.
Expanding on his remarks he said: “No I mean don’t forget your steps, don’t fall in love and remember that Strictly is a pantomime!
“It’s a lovely, beautiful show but at the end of the day it’s just showbiz. It’s fake. It’s fake,” he told Steph McGovern on her Channel 4 afternoon show Steph’s Packed Lunch.

“Just do it. Treat it as a job,” he continued. “Go home and think about the people that you love.
“Because at the end of the day Strictly Come Dancing is not going to hold your hand on your deathbed. The people that you love are,” he added earnestly.
The 34-year-old, and his 36-year-old professional partner, were the first ever male same-sex pairing on the show in 2021.
They reached the final but were beaten to the glitterball trophy by Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.
He subsequently opened up last month about spending time apart from his fiancée after developing feelings for his South African dance partner.

“I fell in love with him [Johannes],” he told The Times. “I can’t speak for him – because I’m not allowed to, legally – but it felt like there was love there.”
He said he had “so much in common” with Johannes, who joined Strictly back in 2018.
“We had such similar stories growing up – the homophobia, the bullying, coming out, coming to terms with our sexuality – as any queer kid would,” he explained.
John was speaking in advance of a new group of celebrities taking to the dancefloor for this year’s competition which kicks off on September 16.
There are 15 celebrity contestants taking part in the upcoming series and they include Family Fortunes presenter Les Dennis, former tennis player Annabel Croft, British actor Nigel Harman, EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier, Paralympian Jody Cundy, former Coronation Street star Ellie Leach and radio host Nikita Kanda.
