‘I’m MAFS’s first trans bride Ella – I’ve had all my surgery done, it made me feel complete’
She’s making history as the show’s first transgender bride, and now Married at First Sight UK star Ella Morgan has candidly opened up about her transition journey.
Speaking to OK! and other press, the 29-year-old clinic consultant explained that she knew she was a girl from a young age.
“I knew I was a girl from about the age of six but I didn’t know for a fact until I did sex education when I was about 12,” she told us.
“Then at 16 I told my mum and dad that I couldn’t bear life anymore and started transitioning from then. I was 20 when I had my surgery. I’ve been fully completed for quite some years now.”
Opening up about her reasons for wanting to marry a stranger, Ella admitted that she’s found it “really hard” to date.
“I think for me personally, I can’t be picky because most guys aren’t willing to tell their friends and family that their girlfriend Ella is trans,” she said.
“I just thought, ‘OK I’m never going to meet anyone then.’ I tried and tried and tried, and I thought the only way I was ever going to get married, let alone just get a boyfriend, was by doing something like this.”
Ella, from Weston-Super-Mare, continued: “I had a lot of guys interested, but as soon as they found out about me or as soon as it got to a serious stage, they cut it off because they were like, ‘I’m a bit embarrassed by you and I don’t want to tell my family and friends.’
“I don’t want to be someone’s dirty secret. I feel like people need that education, but I don’t want to harp on about it to everyone. I’d rather watch the show, see that I’m just like the other girls and relatable, and hopefully people from that will feel that they can talk openly or date trans girls, whether they’re pre op or post op.”
She hopes that she will inspire others by doing the E4 show.
“I just feel like I’m blessed that Channel 4 gave me this opportunity to be a voice,” she said.
“For me, it’s a long time coming. Love Island would never have someone like me on that show because it is so mainstream and it’s always that typical type of boy and girl. I’m just so glad that Channel 4 has asked me. I never thought in a million years I’d get asked to do it.”
Married at First Sight UK airs from Monday 18th September at 9pm on E4.
