Coronation Street’s Billy Mayhew star details disappointment’ over wedding
Coronation Street: Paul struggles to lift his wine glass
On Monday night, Coronation Street viewers watched as Billy Mayhew (played by Daniel Brocklebank) married Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) in the Bistro,
ITV fans later watched as Paul surprised Billy with a secret ceremony at his Church, after finding a vicar to agree to marry them.
During the episode, Billy was moved to tears as he got to say his vows in his place of worship alongside his new husband.
As he had no idea about the impromptu church wedding, soap star Daniel Brocklebank spoke to Express.co.uk and other media publications about how his character felt before realising the grand surprise.
He said: “I think he was a bit disappointed, I mean for Billy obviously being a religious character.

“If you go back through his journey through his time in Corrie, there were things that he was very much insistent on and not getting married because he didn’t want to do it in a secular service.
“He wanted, obviously, to do it in a religious service.”
However, as the Church of England rules do not allow same-sex couples to get married in a religious setting Billy was made to believe they were tying the knot at the Bistro.
He continued: “Of course, he would’ve preferred to get married in a church, I think Paul’s illness has given him reason to hurry things along.

“Time is not on their side, which I’m thinking will probably help sway his decision to do this.
“But on the other side of things, I think he’s very conscious not to show Paul any form of disappointment, even though it’s not an ideal situation.
“He wouldn’t want Paul to feel that this is in any way second best or not good enough.
“So, he’s done his very best not to allow that to be shown.”
It looks as though there’s trouble ahead for Billy and Paul after a photo of them saying their vows was left behind at the church.
Official spoilers reveal he’s set to be suspended by the church indefinitely for breaking the rules on same-sex weddings.
Will Billy stay quiet and take the consequences silently? Or will he stand his ground and stand by his decision?
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
