Jeymes Samuel's Biblical Film 'The Book of Clarence' Sees First Official Trailer
The Book of Clarence, the biblical film written and directed by The Harder They Fall‘s Jeymes Samuel, has a lot of star power. Starring LaKeith Stanfield (who also starred in Samuel’s directorial debut) and produced by Jay-Z, the cinematic epic tells a timeless biblical story from the eyes of an everyman.
“I always wanted to explore the Bible stories, but from the angle of the person that sells Jesus his sandals, the woman or man that owns the hair salon,” Samuel told Vanity Fair. The film follows the story of Clarence, a Jerusalemite man-turned-Messiah. Though definitely intrigued by Jesus, Clarence is no devout religious man, solely becoming a Messiah with the mere focus on his own personal gain. As Clarence’s journey progresses, he finds himself developing a deeper connection to his faith.
“I’m Clarence, I’m not a man without fault,” Stanfield, who stars as Clarence, opens the two-minute trailer. “I played the cards I was dealt.” Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard and Teyana Taylor also appear in the film.
The Book of Clarence is set to debut in theaters on January 12, 2024. Stream the trailer above.
