Hugh Jackman's ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness breaks silence following shock split

Hugh Jackman’s former wife Deborra-Lee Furness spoke in public for the first time since her shocking split from the Wolverine actor during an impromptu radio interview.

The 67-year-old actress picked up an accidental cold call from Australian radio DJs Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson while they were live on air on Tuesday. 

After realising their mistake, the co-hosts were gobsmacked when the star answered the phone and began chatting with them.

Kyle could be heard exclaiming: ‘We have actually called you by mistake, it’s ridiculous. Seriously, this isn’t a stitch-up.’ 

He continued telling the actress, according to MailOnline: ‘We didn’t mean to actually call you. But now you’re here, we won’t go into it. We love you, we hope you’re well.’

Deborra replied: ‘Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. You’re really sweet,’ after learning of their mistake. 

Acknowledging her extremely public marriage breakdown, Kyle went on to assure her: ‘I just feel it’s too soon. I don’t want to get involved in anything. 

‘But we love you, and you ring us when you want to chat.’

Hugh’s ex-wife then responded with gratitude and was heard saying: ‘Thank you, guys. I really, really appreciate it,’ before she hung up the phone. 

Deborra and Hugh, 54, recently announced their separation to the shock of fans after 27 years of marriage to one another. 

In a statement to US publication People, the couple said: ‘We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage.

‘Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.

‘Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness.

‘We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.’

The statement, signed ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman’, ended: ‘This is the sole statement either of us will make.’

Jackman, 54, and Furness, 67, had met on the set of Australian TV show Correlli in 1995 and the pair were married for almost three decades, having wed on April 11 1996.

The pair had two adopted children together called Oscar and Ava.
