A 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, a cherished classic, has been listed for auction on Bring A Trailer and at the time of writing, sits with a highest bid of just over $1.2 million USD.

This particular model is number 32 of 350 produced during a limited 18-month production run. Initially completed on May 24, 1963 and delivered via Crepaldi in Milan, Italy — the car has since traveled a significant distance, arriving in the U.S. in the early 1980s.

The 250 GT Lusso, first introduced at the 1962 Paris Motor Show, was Ferrari’s closing tribute to the iconic 250 series. This auction piece, chassis 4421, owes its factory fresh look to a series of refurbishments that have taken place over the years, most notably receiving a 3.3-liter Colombo V12 engine transplant from a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB.

Additionally, under the stewardship of its current owner since 2000, the car has seen extensive restoration work spearheaded by Patrick Ottis in Berkeley, California. Between the early 2000s and 2014, the restoration project included a comprehensive overhaul of its engine, transmission, brakes and suspension systems.

The car’s aesthetic also received notable attention. Initially painted in a factory blue, chassis 4421 was first refinished in Garnet before a black repaint was done by Berlinetta Motorcars Ltd. of New York in the late 1990s. A paint correction was performed during the 2014 refurbishment, alongside a re-trim of the interior with tan leather and a refresh of the 15” Borrani wire wheels.

With a clean California title accompanying the car, the auction also includes refurbishment records and removed parts like the belly pan and air-cleaner housing. The auction represents a rare opportunity for collectors to own a piece of automotive history, meticulously restored and maintained.

Interested buyers have roughly six hours left to place their bids via Bring A Trailer, with the bid to beat a substantial $1,222,222 USD.
