The explosive dinner parties on Married at First Sight UK have become legendary, with tensions running high as couples confront each other.

But what goes on behind the scenes of these dramatic gatherings? Here's a sneak peek into the hidden secrets of the MAFS UK dinner parties.

Former MAFS UK bride Amy Christophers, who appeared in the 2021 series, spilled the beans on one significant factor contributing to the tension: the food. Speaking to The Tab, Amy revealed that the cast often find themselves hangry, thanks to what she described as "f*****g awful" food.

The dinner party filming starts early, sometimes as early as 8:30 am, and can stretch into the small hours, not wrapping up until 3 am.

To keep things dramatic, the producers ensure that couples are kept apart before the dinner party. They have secret rooms where participants are held, preventing them from communicating with each other.

Amy elaborated on this secretive process, stating: "You'll be sat waiting in a room, and then they move you out of it, and into a different room. And slowly, you get closer and closer to the party – and you're staggered out so you don't see the other couples before you walk in, and you have no idea what order you're going in."

Before entering the dinner party, the couples are allowed to consume as much alcohol as they'd like to help ease their nerves. Following the mixer, they return to their individual rooms, not just to "sober up" but also to give producers time to set up the dinner party scene.

This sometimes results in the brides and grooms waiting for an hour or even two before joining the dinner party.

Former Married at First Sight UK star Adrian Sanderson also shed light on how the explosive dinner parties are filmed. During an Instagram Q&A one fan asked: "When they cut to someone outside mid-dinner, for a snippet on what's going on, is that before/during/after?"

Adrian said: "This is a bit of a sneaky one. What happens is there'll be a break and then you'll all go off separately. Always someone would be there to grab you and take you so you all stay separate as well.

"So we got separated constantly throughout this process," explaining that this happened before commitment ceremonies and dinner parties "in order for conversations to not happen before you end up in front of the camera".

Adrian also responded to speculation that the arguments were faked, adding: "People keep on saying that this is fake drama. It's not fake, they tried to keep it as authentic as possible. That's why they tried to separate us as much as possible and that's why problems happened when we went back to the apartment."

So, while the drama unfolds seamlessly on screen, it's clear that behind the scenes, careful planning and staging play a significant role in making MAFS UK dinner parties the unforgettable spectacles they are.
