The push towards a more sustainable future for transportation has seen carmaker MINI join forces with e-bike manufacturer Angell Mobility, resulting in the all new MINI E-Bike 1 – a limited-edition electric bicycle that comes in two models and two color schemes.

The MINI E-Bike 1 is limited to just 1,959 pieces – a nod to the year MINI was founded – and marks the start of a long-term partnership between the brands. The collaboration also ushers in new chapters for both: MINI, which has seen sales of its electric cars skyrocket in recent years, has been looking to add to its portfolio and electric bikes feel like a natural extension of this; Angell Mobility, which was founded in 2018 by Marc Simoncini, is known for making e-bikes but recently changed its name to include “mobility” in a move it hopes better reflects its ambition to impact transportation on broader level.

The bike is available in two configurations: the “M” features the French bikemaker’s signature angled top tube and is best suited for taller riders; whilst the “S” features a lower, step-through style frame that smaller riders and anyone cycling in longer-form clothing would appreciate. The two models come in two color options, Ocean Wave Green and Vibrant Silver, mirroring MINI’s color schemes for 2024. Each bike is hand-built in France using an ultra-lightweight, aero grade aluminum that helps to keep the bikes under 38 pounds (including the removable battery) – unusually light by e-bike standards, without compromising on overall sturdiness and build quality.

To help users get around town, the MINI E-Bike 1 features integrated digital cockpit located at the center of its handlebars. This digital display shows riders key information like speed and distance, but also includes mapping through a proprietary navigation system that links up with and is controlled through a mobile application; users can log trips, set riding preferences, choose from new or favorited destinations and more. At the bike’s recent launch event in Paris, Hypebeast spoke to Angell Mobility’s CEO, John Mollanger, who revealed the GPS provider was the same one that BMW uses in its cars, and will also allow users to track and locate their bike if stolen.

The MINI E-Bike 1 is available for pre-order now via both MINI’s and Angell’s websites priced at €3,490 EUR (approximately $3,735 USD at today’s exchange rate). It will also be available at selected bicycle retailers and MINI dealerships across Europe, but fans in the US will have to wait as there is no word yet on a stateside release. In related news, Honda’s Motocompo is making a comeback.
