You would think it would be every parent’s worst nightmare.

But Ethan Hawke has stated that he ‘couldn’t care less’ when he had to direct his daughter, Maya Hawke, in a graphic sex scene for their upcoming film Wildcat.

On the subject of ’embarrassing days on set’ the father and daughter duo opened up to Variety about their experiences – saying that both of them felt ‘comfortable’ with it.

Ethan, 52, even joked that it was actually more awkward for his daughter’s two co-stars, Rafael Casal, 38, and Cooper Hoffman, 20 (son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.)

Maya plays American novelist Flannery O’Conner in the film, and the two young men star as her paramours – hence the sex scene.

‘I think it was weird for them,’ Ethan said, quipping that the two men had to be taken ‘care of’ during the intimate scenes with his 25-year-old daughter.

Like father, like daughter: Ethan Hawke revealed how awkward it was directing his daughter Maya in the upcoming film Wildcat during a Variety interview

Doting dad: The Wildcat director said that it was more awkward for his daughter’s two male co-stars than it was for her while shooting the intimate scenes for the film

However, when it came to directing Maya herself during the aforementioned scenes, Ethan stated, ‘I couldn’t care less.’

‘We made sure to have an intimacy coordinator on set for them. So that they felt safe and comfortable and not like they were being spied on,’ Maya added.

Ethan then added: ‘…by some creepy dad.’

The Training Day star added that, while some fans might assume Maya might be weirded out by shooting such moments in front of her famous father, ‘I think it was weird[er] for [Rafael and Cooper.]’

In the film, Maya plays American novelist Flannery O’Conner, as she struggles during her journey of publishing her first novel.

It was the Little Women star herself that pitched the idea about Flannery to her dad’s production company.

According to the interview, Flannery herself doesn’t actually have a love interest in the film.

However, Rafael and Cooper play two paramours of Flannery’s characters in two of her short stories, hence the two sex scenes Maya had to shoot for Wildcat.

The next great novelist: Nearly unrecognizable in Wildcat, Maya portrays famous American novelist Flannery O’Conner

Proud nepo dad: Ethan boldly proclaimed in the Variety interview that he was a ‘proud nepo dad’; seen in September in Telluride, Colorado

Leading man: Rafael Casal plays a fictional love interest in one of Flannery O’Conner’s short stories in Wildcat

Staying cool: Cooper Hoffman also appears in Wildcat as a fictional love interest, with Maya and Ethan joking that he and Rafael needed more support filming the movie’s sex scenes

Although a general theatrical release date has yet to be confirmed, Wildcat premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado on the first of September.

Maya revealed that she ended up relating to Wildcat’s heroine after reading some of her works.

‘This clearly talented, smart young woman was very worried that she was bad…when she wanted to be great,’ the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star said.

She could empathize with that feeling, adding, ‘I wanted to be great, and I was so afraid that I was terrible at the things I loved.’
