Jennie McAlpine has spilled the secret of how she managed to hide her pregnancy from viewers, while filming scenes for Coronation Street.

Corrie icon Fiz Stape, played by Jennie, 39, left the cobbles in May after she was offered a job in Norwich.

The seamstress has been a long-term employee off Underworld, with Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) hailing her as one of his most trusted employees.

Doting husband Tyrone urged Fiz to take the promotion before she accepted Stephen’s offer and packed her bags.

Now Jennie, who has played Fiz Dobbs on Coronation Street since 2001 and recently gave birth to her third child with husband Chris Farr, has explained what producers did to keep her pregnancy hidden from the cameras.

Jennie revealed exclusively to OK!: “With my last pregnancy they kept me hidden behind a Ford Fiesta. This time, I am not even joking, it was a Transit!

“But they’ve been so good about me going off again because I know it’s hard work for the writers thinking of storylines to explain my absence. I am coming back, though! I was 17 when I started on Corrie and when I go back after maternity leave, I’ll be 40. I’ve been in it longer than I haven’t. But I never take it for granted.”

Jennie has been back to the cobbles since the birth, taking Doris to meet her Corrie family for the first time.

She said: “She had lots of cuddles in the green room with Maureen [Lipman who plays Evelyn Plummer] and Alan [Halsall who plays Jennie’s on-screen husband Tyrone] and we met my new mother-in-law, who is played by Claire Sweeney."

Being a diehard Corrie fan, Jennie is keeping up to date with all the goings on in Weatherfield while she’s away. She also admitted that she discovered Classic Coronation Street on ITVX and she’s bingeing on it during the night feeds.

The actress said: “Being able to watch Classic Corrie in the middle of the night is better than having a million diamond bracelets and bunches of flowers!”

Jennie gave birth to her beautiful daughter almost five months ago but held off publicly announcing the birth, preferring to stay ensconced in the newborn bubble for as long as possible.

The baby was born just before midnight on April 4, weighing 7lbs 11oz, at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Hospital.

This is baby number three for Jennie and Chris Farr, her husband of six-and-a-half years, and they’re smitten with her and adapting well to life as a family of five.

Doris is a younger sister for Albert, eight, and four-year-old Hilda.
