Being rude to waiting staff tends to feature highly on many people\u2019s ick lists, but what counts as rudeness appears to vary depending on who you ask.<\/p>\n
This man revealed how he and his wife clearly differ on the topic of bad manners, with their opposing ideas over etiquette causing a rift in the relationship.<\/p>\n
Posting to Reddit, he explained that the couple had hired a babysitter to look after their children while they went to see a movie. <\/p>\n
Although they\u2019d eaten before leaving, they were hungry after the film and realised a favourite local pizza place was nearby, so decided to head over.<\/p>\n
\u2018As we came through the door I could see the place was completely empty,\u2019 said the man. \u2018They close at 10pm and it was 9:51 or something.\u2019<\/p>\n
His wife could see he wanted to leave but was, according to the poster, \u2018being really difficult\u2019. As he dislikes having arguments in public, he \u2018went along with it\u2019.<\/p>\n
The man explained: \u2018She\u2019s done this before at 20-30 mins before closing time, but never this late. All I can say is it made me feel really uncomfortable. <\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019ve never been a server but I could tell from their faces that they were really f****** annoyed.\u2019<\/p>\n

Alongside seeing no issue with turning up for a sit-down meal less than 10 minutes before they were due to shut, the woman ordered a \u2018specialty pizza\u2019 with a number of extra toppings. <\/p>\n
\u2018Once the waitress left, I only\u00a0somewhat<\/em>\u00a0jokingly said \u201cThey\u2019re gonna spit on your pizza\u201d,\u2019 continued the man\u2019s post. \u2018She could sense the sarcasm in my voice and asked what my deal was.\u2019<\/p>\n After telling his wife he was \u2018uncomfortable going into a sit-down restaurant when it\u2019s this close to closing time,\u2019 she became upset and \u2018got really defensive.\u2019<\/p>\n She reply it was staff\u2019s job \u2018to serve customers until the stated closing time,\u2019 adding, \u2018if they\u2019re open, we should be able to dine there.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018I tried to explain that the staff probably wants to clean up and go home, and it\u2019s just common courtesy not to barge in right at the last minute,\u2019 said the man, yet their disagreement had sullied their date night.<\/p>\n The post sparked a range of opinions over whether this constituted bad manners, with one person saying: \u2018Thats totally a d*** move. 20 minutes cutting it close, 30 minutes no problem. Nine minutes\u2026 just not being a nice person.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Ask her if she\u2019d like it if her boss made her stay after hours by giving her work nine minutes before they close,\u2019 commented another, while a third simply said: \u2018Your wife is a selfish person.\u2019<\/p>\n A few hospitality workers also chimed in, including one who commented: \u2018We view these people as the worst of the worst. We would rather get stuffed on a tip than deal with entitled people thinking it\u2019s ok to work two hours past our out times.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018As a chef, we all hate your wife,\u2019 added another.<\/p>\n Some argued the restaurant should have advertised a kitchen close time to avoid confusion, and others suggested the man could have compromised with his wife by ordering takeaway.<\/p>\n The overarching mood in the comments, though, was that the pair should have left as soon as they realised the time.<\/p>\n What do you think?<\/p>\n
