William Shatner Eager to Reprise ‘Star Trek’ Role in Quentin Tarantino’s Movie

While jumping at a chance to portray Captain James T. Kirk once again, the ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ star does note that his ailing health may affect his ability to take part.

AceShowbizWilliam Shatner would reprise his role as Captain James T. Kirk in Quentin Tarantino‘s possible “Star Trek” movie if he was asked.

The 88-year-old actor originally played Kirk in “Star Trek: The Original Series” from 1966 to 1969, and returned to voice the character in the short lived “Star Trek: The Animated Series” two years later. And speaking to Reuters, Shatner revealed he’d jump at the chance to reprise his role alongside Oscar-winning director Tarantino.

“Quentin Tarantino said something in the paper that somebody said to me, that he loved me. And Quentin, I love you. If you’re going to do ‘Star Trek’ 50 years later, a few pounds heavier, come on. Not a problem!” he joked.

However, he did acknowledge that his ailing health may affect what he would be able to do in the movie, adding: “Well, I’d like to do it. Whether I’d be up for it, I don’t know.”

The 56-year-old director was rumoured to be helming a new film in the sci-fi franchise, with reports claiming that studio Paramount had assembled a team of writers to work on a screenplay.

He’d also previously gushed about the veteran actor’s portrayal of Captain Kirk, telling Deadline: “I think it’s one of the greatest performances in the history of episodic television.”
