With theaters across America closed and no new movies due to release for at least two months, theatrical exhibition is one of the many entertainment sectors which has been financially hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Lionsgate has been running fundraising livestream movie events over the past few weeks to raise money for workers in this area, and the latest free film that fans can watch is John Wick.
The 2014 action hit will be screened for free on the studio’s Lionsgate Live website tomorrow, May 8, at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET.. Money raised during the screening will be donated to the Will Rogers Motion Pictures Pioneers Foundation, which has been set up to “provide financial assistance and supportive counseling to those who work in theatrical exhibition who are experiencing hardship due to illness, accident, or underemployment.”
John Wick is the latest Lionsgate Live event following screenings of La La Land, Dirty Dancing, and The Hunger Games. The series is hosted by Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis. The series also runs in the UK, with Dexter Fletcher’s comedy Eddie the Eagle screening on May 8.
John Wick: Chapter 3 was released last year. Chapter 4 is currently scheduled to arrive on May 27, 2022, having moved back from its original date of May 2021. The latest movie in Lionsgate’s Saw series, Spiral, has instead been pushed to that slot. Unlike John Wick: Chapter 4, which is yet to start shooting, production on Spiral had been completed before the pandemic. In addition, the spin-off game John Wick Hex is now available on the PS4.
