Twitter Bans Egyptian Actor for 'Now Lets Kill Some Jews' Tweet
Hesham Mansour was removed after years of anti-Semitic tweets
Twitter has permanently suspended Egyptian actor Hesham Mansour after tweeting “now lets kill some jews” on Monday morning, a company rep has confirmed.
Mansour, who had more than 800,00 followers on Twitter, was retweeted about 320 times before his account was banned.
The account was permanently suspended for “multiple violations of the Twitter Rules,” the rep said.
The Twitter Rules, under its policy against violent threats, stipulates users “may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people. We also prohibit the glorification of violence.”
Before his exile, Mansour had been tweeting anti-Semitic comments for years. Just in the last week, he’d tweeted “watch me torture jews, when the time comes.” Another tweet insisted “all negativity in the world” and “all terrorism in the world” has been “caused by jews.”
Mansour’s IMBD page has two credits to his name, including “The Land of Hypocrisy,” an Egyptian television show that’s available on Netflix.
Twitter has increasingly looked to improve what CEO Jack Dorsey has called the “health” of conversation on its platform in the last 18 months. The company has permanently suspended several far-right commentators in the last year, including Laura Loomer and Alex Jones. Last week, the company said it would start labeling — but not deleting — tweets from political figures that violate its rules but serve the public interest by remaining online.
