Back in late 2019, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford welcomed the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon on This Morning as the last of a series of interviews with major party leaders as the build-up continued for the December election. It had been claimed a behind-the-scenes incident which occurred between host Eamonn and the programme’s editor, Martin Frizell, marked the “beginning of the end” for the husband-and-wife duo’s tenure on the ITV series but the programme has insisted this was instead a run of the mill discussion, with no row taking place.
Last weekend it was revealed the pair had been axed from their Friday morning slot after 14 years of presenting the magazine show.
The pair were said to have been left “upset” by the decision from bosses and – if true – it remains unclear how much longer the hosts will remain on the programme.
It has now been reported a clash between Eamon and the show’s editor Martin over the interview with Ms Sturgeon marked the start of ongoing tension.
The First Minister of Scotland reportedly contacted producers of the show to explain she wanted to present Eamonn and Ruth with a traditional Scottish Christmas decoration.
This is said to have sparked a disagreement as Eamonn believed it would break impartiality rules ahead of December’s general election.
A source told the Mail on Sunday: “Martin exploded, saying he was the editor and he decided what happened on the show.
“He then refused to go to Eamonn’s dressing room for the pre-show meeting with the presenters.
“The producer was having to run back and forth between the newsroom and the dressing room to convey Eamonn’s fury to Martin and Martin’s fury to Eamonn.”
A spokesperson for This Morning told Express.co.uk: “We have a stellar presenting line up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth.
“Any additions to this line up will be announced in due course.”
The Daily Express has contacted representatives for Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford for comment.
Eamonn and Ruth will reportedly be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

The duo impressed show bosses when they got the chance to take over Eamonn and Ruth’s slot during the summer holidays.
Alison has been a big hit with fans in recent years and Dermot is a well-known name on ITV already from his days hosting The X Factor.
Ruth and Eamonn will still be able to take the reins during the summer despite being dropped from their regular slot.
ITV viewers see some of the show’s main presenters take some holiday away from their hosting duties over the summer and spend time with their families.
Earlier this week, Alison joined Phillip Schofield to present This Morning in place of Holly Willoughby.
The following days, Davina McCall stepped in to present with it being revealed Holly was looking after her children.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
