The Walking Dead fans were distraught to hear Michonne star Danai Gurira would be leaving the show earlier on this year.
The star announced she would be leaving the show back in July at Comic-Con international at San Diego, leaving fans wondering how Michonne will leave the show.
Based on last season’s events, it seems Michonne could be in for a gruesome death if her character was to follow suit of the other fallen survivors.
However, it seems the character won’t be leaving screens without finding love first.
Fans were shocked to see Michonne and Ezekiel (played by Khary Payton) share a kiss in one of the show’s latest spoilers.
The kiss came as a surprise as viewers last saw Ezekiel in a relationship with Carol (Melissa McBride) who he shared an adopted son with.
However, it seems their relationship took a turn for the worst after the events of the season nine finale, which saw their son Henry murdered by the Whisperers.
Although fans don’t know how the romance will play out just yet, showrunner Angela Kang recently spoke out about the new development in an interview with TV Line.
The showrunner suggested a potential romance between the pair will be on the cards and hinted the trailer’s nods towards a romance were true, and not “illusions or flashbacks or dreams”.
Angela began: “We are seeing a moment,”
“This really does happen. The characters have always had a respect for each other.
“They like each other. [And their relationship] feeds into the journeys they’re on this season.”
The show runner didn’t stop there as she also let fans in on what’s to come in Michonne’s final scenes of the new season.
The show runner added: “We’ll also get to showcase good, old-fashioned Michonne being a badass.”
It seems Michonne’s exit has been planned for a while as this isn’t the first time Angela promised an surprise element to the character’s exit.
Shortly after the star’s exit was announced back in July she promised “some fallout and emotional consequences” but in a “very particular way”.
Angela revealed: “[Michonne’s exit] will obviously have some fallout and emotional consequences,
“But there’s a very particular way in which it all happens, so hopefully it’ll be surprising and interesting for our fans.”
Does the much-teased “emotional consequences” refer to Ezekiel’s heartbreak?
The Walking Dead returns October 7 on FOX in the UK.
