THE Tourist's latest instalment aired on Sunday, January 9, 2022, and left fans baffled.
Some viewers of the BBC One thriller were frustrated when the show's most hated character was spared by contract killer Billy Nixon.
The Tourist viewers raged on social media after Ethan (portrayed by Greg Larsen) wasn't killed off in the show's latest episode.
While cowboy hat-wearing killer Billy Nixon (played by Icelandic-American actor) Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) appears to be the obvious bad guy, viewers branded Ethan the true villain of the show.
"Just finished episode three of #TheTourist and so far Ethan is by far the worst human, including the cowboy killer", wrote one Twitter user.
"I can't help thinking Ethan in #TheTourist is written as so pantomimically repulsive it feels he's a bigger villain than the drawling shotgun-toting American", added another.
A third agreed: "Three episodes into #TheTourist now and I still can’t quite make my mind up on what I think of it, other than the fact Ethan is more of a villain than the actual villains."
Another handful of fans took to social media to encourage Helen (Danielle MacDonald) to leave her husband-to-be.
"I’m onto episode three", wrote one user, adding: "if this doesn’t end with Helen, the probationary Constable, drop-kicking Ethan into next week I’ll need to have words with the writers."
"Ethan is horrible", added another user while a third went on: "Ethan is getting on my last nerve."
"I'm more invested in Ethan getting his comeuppance than anything else."

The Tourist viewers all have the same complaint about Jamie Dornan's character
"Have just watched episode three of #TheTourist. Really really hope Ethan gets his comeuppance, Helen is far too good for him." concluded a viewer.
Actor Greg Larsen reacted to the comments and unanimous hatred of his character with humour on his own Twitter account.
He was responding to a post which read: "Ethan could be the character I’d most like to punch in the face in TV history #TheTourist."
Greg followed up with: "Getting lots of good feedback!! Check me out on #TheTourist."
Aired on New Year's Day (Saturday, January 1, 2022) The Tourist follows Jamie Dornan who slips into the skin of The Man also named Elliot Stanley, a character who wakes up with amnesia in the Australian Outback after being involved in a car crash.
As he attempts to piece his life back together, Elliot finds that he is being pursued by contract killer Billy Nixon.
The third episode of The Tourist showed the latter continuing his hunt for The Man.
He knocked on Ethan's door, posing as Detective James Logan and claiming to be working undercover with Probationary Constable Helen, who is helping Elliot make sense of his life again after being assigned to his case.
Naively, Ethan lets him in, giving details about his fiancée's whereabouts to Billy.
As he is talking, Billy is preparing to shoot Ethan dead but the character narrowly escapes death, without realising it, after giving the killer all the information he needed.
Billy tracks Elliot down with Helen and Luci (Shalom Brune-Franklin) and Australian couple Ralf (Danny Adcock) and Sue (Genevieve Lemon).
As he attempts to kill Elliot during a shooting spree in Ralf and Sue's home, Billy eventually and tragically kills the former who had no time to run for cover.
The explosive episode will be followed up with a fourth instalment on Sunday, January 16, 2022, airing on BBC One at 9pm.
With six episodes in the series, The Tourist is to remain on screens until Sunday, January 30, 2022.
