After eight months away from the hit teatime show, Alex Jones returned to present The One Show on BBC One tonight (January 6). Sitting alongside co-host Patrick Kielty, the pair discussed her time away as well as her feelings about her return, which led to a surprise statement from the TV presenter.
As the opening credits ended, Patrick and Alex were all smiles as her comeback episode got underway.
Following their introductions, Patrick quipped to his co-host: “You never lose it!”
However, Alex’s response left her fellow presenter rather on edge about the upcoming show.
Alex responded: “Well, so they say, we’ll see. I feel really nervous!”

The 42-year-old continued: “It’s been eight months! You know, it’s been lovely with little Kit and Ted…
“But I do feel like, I don’t know. Like it’s the first time ever I’ve done it.”
The revelation appeared to stop Patrick in his tracks as he began to question how the rest of the show would go.
Patrick replied: “That’s quite nervous for me because I was hoping that you’d actually come and everything would be so completely fine.”
Alex failed to reassure her co-host as she said: “Well, sorry to burst your bubble but I’m out of practice!”
The fact Alex was “basically relying on” Patrick prompted a hilarious response from the star.
Patrick gave a wave to the audience as he said: “Thanks, okay, good night!”
The comedian then stormed off-camera for a few seconds before returning to his spot alongside Alex.
As the conversation continued, Alex opened up about how life had changed since welcoming her second child in 2019.
Patrick asked: “Let’s talk bubbzies, how are they all keeping?”
Alex candidly said: “They’re lovely! Kit’s obviously seven and a half months now, Teddy will be three in January.
“It’s just been the nicest period but it was time to come back.”

“And thank you for all your messages, it’s really lovely to hear from everybody whilst I’ve been off.”
Alex will retain her spot on the sofa for the foreseeable future while other regular co-host Matt Baker has decided to step down later this year.
