The third episode of The Masked Singer’s spin-off show, The Masked Dancer, aired on Monday night with more mystery celebrities showing off their dance skills. One character in particular caught the attention of viewers and that was Zip. With many clues hinting towards a music connection, fans of the ITV show guessed it could be Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay behind the mask.
Judges Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and newcomer Oti Mabuse were doing their best to guess the celebrities behind the extravagant costumes.
There were a number of big name guesses in Monday’s episode, with Jonathan even throwing out Meghan Markle’s name while trying to guess who Beetroot is.
However, it was Zip who caught lots of attention from ITV viewers online.
They performed an eccentric dance routine to Kool & The Gang’s track Jungle boogie.
During Zip’s clue package they said: “I’m ready to break out the bellbottoms and zip up the competition.”
They hinted at a music career saying: “I’ve led a funky lifestyle – a rollercoaster for sure.”
“It’s been a life well lived and I’ve got the trophy’s to prove it,” they added.
Zip even teased that they were the adventurous type, describing themselves as: “A bit of a thrill seeker.”
The judging panel were very impressed by Zip’s dance routine and gave the character high praise.
“Great work Zip” head judge Jonathan said after watching the performance.
Oti agreed, adding: “That was the best performance by far of the night.”
The judges were seemingly stumped by Zip as they offered up varying guesses of who it could be.
Iain Wright, Olly Murs, H from Steps and Freddie Flintoff were just some of the names mentioned by the panel.
But, the viewers at home seemed to have a better idea of who Zip could be.
Many fans thought it was Jamiroquai star Jay Kay behind the mask and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
“This is giving me Jay Kay Vibes #TheMaskedDancer” one viewer wrote.
A send agreed, saying: “I think Zip is Jay Kay #TheMaskedDancer”
“I’m calling Jay Kay @JamiroquaiHQ as Zip #TheMaskedDancer” another fan wrote.
A fourth viewer guessed: “#TheMaskedDancer I think #zip could be Jay Kay from Jamiroquai and #knickerbockerglory Paloma Faith”
But, is it Jay Kay behind Zip’s mask? Viewers will have to tune in again to find out as Zip sailed through to the next round.
The Masked Dancer airs weeknights on ITV.
