Strictly Come Dancing will soon be returning to BBC One with a brand new celebrity line-up. Excitement for the 2021 series of the hit dance competition has already begun to build as the first few contestants have been revealed. As fans gear up for the show, Strictly professional dancer Katya Jones has given insight behind the scenes of the costume department.

Strictly Come Dancing viewers don’t just tune in for the dancing celebrities, many fans are in awe of the stunning sparkle-covered outfits.

The famous contestants often perform while donning sequin coated gowns or diamanté drenched shirts.

Ahead of the new series, dancing pro Katya has shared the secrets of the Strictly wardrobe department, revealing just how eco-friendly it is under all that glitter.

In a recent interview the dancer revealed that the Strictly Come Dancing costume department is actually quite thrifty.

She explained the wardrobe team aren’t afraid to get creative by repurposing costumes throughout a series.

Katya said: “The Strictly wardrobe team are among the very best and most creative at repurposing and reusing, which is something I don’t think a lot of people realise.

“For example, you might see me wear a dress in week one and in the final, the skirt from it will have been transformed and teamed with the top of another dress you’ve seen on another dancer.

She gave high praise to the Strictly wardrobe team for doing their best to be environmentally friendly.

“The ways they find to repurpose are absolutely unreal. They’re brilliant,” she told Hello!

Katya donned a wide range of glittery outfits last year when she made Strictly history alongside her celebrity dance partner Nicola Adams.

The duo were the first same-sex pairing to compete on the BBC dance show.

However, their time in the contest was sadly cut short when Katya tested positive for Covid-19 and they had to withdraw from the competition.

But, Katya has another shot at the Glitterball Trophy this year as she’s set to return for the 2021 series.

The BBC are currently in the process of revealing which celebrities will be taking part in the competition this year.

Eight famous faces have been unveiled in the line-up so far with more expected to be revealed in the coming days and weeks.

Musician Tom Fletcher was the first celebrity competitor to be revealed.

He will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his McFly bandmate Harry Judd who won the 2011 series.

Another Strictly star announced was TV presenter Aj Odudu who fans may recognise from her work on The Voice UK, Trending Live and Big Brother’s Bit on the Side.

Joining them will be TV chef John Whaite, who is set to make history on the show, by being part of Strictly’s first-ever all-male partnership.

The BBC also announced that Peep Show star Robert Webb will be taking part in the coming series.

The comedian said: “I am ludicrously excited to be taking part in Strictly this year.”

Rhys Stephenson will be swapping children’s TV for the Strictly Ballroom and is “buzzing” to be doing so.

Another name on the star-studded line-up is Dragons Den star Sara Davies.

“My Mam and Dad are going to be so excited,” she commented.

More recently Strictly bosses confirmed soap star Katie McGlynn will be taking part in the series.

Viewers may recognise the actress from her roles in Hollyoaks and Coronation Street.

And BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker will also be joining the Strictly line-up for 2021.

Dan became the latest celebrity contestant to be announced on Tuesday morning.

Strictly Come Dancing 2021 will premiere this autumn.
