Katya Jones has been paired up with Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty for this series of Strictly Come Dancing. Ahead of their next performance on the BBC ballroom dancing show this weekend, the duo appeared on Lorraine to discuss their demanding training routine. During the interview with host Lorraine Kelly, Katya let slip that she broke one of her rehearsal rules for Adam.

The Olympian has shared just how gruelling his training has been for this year’s Strictly competition.

On Thursday’s episode of Lorraine, he admitted he felt like he couldn’t walk after one training session due to the amount of pain he was in.

Adam, 26, and dance partner Katya, 32, spoke to host Lorraine from their dance studio.

The swimmer explained how switching up his training for ballroom dancing has taken him some getting used to.

The Olympic gold medallist said that he was suffering from “very, very, very sore feet”.

Last Saturday night, Adam and Katya performed their first routine of the dancing competition, delivering an upbeat Cha-Cha that impressed the judges.

The duo will be performing a Quickstep this weekend in an effort to get a step closer to the final.

Adam added: “This is why my feet hurt so much because I’ve got to change directions so quickly and I’m always on my tiptoes.

“Literally 95kg going in my toes, so I can’t walk, but we’re nearly there.”

He said he had no choice but to wake up at 5.30am and get the blood going as Katya would not give him any time off.

Katya interjected: “That’s something I’ve never let him do before – to go home early.

“It was literally like a knife in my heart.”

Adam cut in to say: “May I just say she only let me go home an hour early, I was still rehearsing for 10 hours straight.”

Lorraine asked Adam how Strictly training compares to his preparations for the Olympics, with the athlete explaining how it usually takes competitors five years to prepare for the Olympics.

However, he has a fraction of that time to prepare for his dancing performances each weekend on Strictly.

Adam told Lorraine he can’t allow himself to “fall out of the mental zone” because then Katya “has a go at me and she shouts at me”.

He added: “So it’s very very full-on, you’ve got to turn up every single day, no matter how tired you are or how much you got going on in your own life or business or whatever, you’ve still got to turn up.”

Adam went on to explain that he takes training “very seriously” as he does not like doing anything half-heartedly.

“I’m all in so I’m literally giving every ounce of energy,” he added.

“I literally can’t move at the end of the day. I’m aware this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I want to make the most of it.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
