Greg, 55, is best known for starring in the blockbuster film Sense and Sensibility with his wife, Emma Thompson, 62. With the Strictly Come Dancing line-up for this year shaping up nicely, the latest famous face appeared on ITV’s This Morning to speak about why they are joining the cast. However, he explained his late sister Claire is the reason he has signed up to showcase his dance moves to the nation on the BBC show.
Presenters Ruth Langsford, 61, and Eamonn Holmes, 61, gave viewers some clues as to who could be taking part.
Two hats were shown to fans to think about in-between announcements, with one hat being a woman’s bonnet and another being a man’s top hat.
It was also explained the couple were married away from the big screen and had starred in a film together.
The hosts teased how it was one half of a famous duo who was going to be signing up and the theories went into overdrive as to who it could be.
Under an hour after the ninth contestant was revealed, it was announced Greg is the 10th famous face and he spoke about how it is five years since his sister passed away and she was a huge fan of the show.
Greg said: “My beautiful sister was a huge disco queen. She left our world almost exactly five years ago in a glitter ball coffin.
“This is for her. My gorgeous Diva sister, who would have been insane with excitement that her little bro was doing this.
“I will channel her, as her brother can’t dance but I’m thrilled to be dipping my toes, knees, hips and arms into this wonderful world, and hope to make her proud, and obviously make her laugh.”
