Stranger Things season 3: Jonathan Byers doomed as exclusive photos show threat?
Stranger Things season three kicks off its next batch of episodes on Netflix tomorrow, and promises to send the gang into new and spooky territory in Hawkins, Indiana.
However these brand new exclusive images paint a darker picture than originally imagined, kicking off with Jonathan Byers (played by Charlie Heaton) in some sort of basement stood next to a small cage.
Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) last caged a creature up in season two, when he found a slug-like monster from the Upside Down, and named him d’Artagnan.
Although the team weren’t exactly thrilled by the creepy beast back then – and, if this a similar situation, Jonathan looks equally unimpressed.
Fans are aware the Mindflayer is back on the scene to cause some trouble in season three, but could he have somehow survived through a d’Artagnan?
Meanwhile, another image sees Jim Hopper (David Barbour) clutching a pillow whilst smoking a cigarette in bed.
The Hawkins police chief can be seen staring at his clock or lamp, looking extremely worried.
Hopper is usually the heart of many of the conflicts in Stranger Things, as he endeavours to protect both the town of Hawkins, and his new daughter, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) – but could this image be showing off Hopper having some sort of other existential crisis?
Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) isn’t usually one to worry – but the image of him downtrodden in his infamous basement tells a different story.
Mike’s relationship with Eleven has blossomed over the time between seasons two and three, and he is now looking out for her even more than he already had been.
But could this image show the moment Mike finds out something terrible about Eleven herself?
Another photo shows newcomer to the show Heather (Francesca Reale) grinning maniacally whilst holding a platter or cookies.
While Heather looks entirely normal and sane, there is certainly something a little off about her appearance – could she be working in cahoots with someone?
And if so, will she be working close with the good guys, or the bad guys?
As a fellow lifeguard at Hawkins’ local pool, could she be the secret way Mike and the team somehow get to Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery)?
According to the season three trailer, it looks like Billy could be on the wrong side of the Mindflayer, and Eleven – but could Heather be the key to bringing him back to the light?
The final image shows a lighter side of the show, as Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max Hargrove (Sadie Sink) stand on a hill.
Lucas can be seen extending a water bottle to his girlfriend, as she looks at him with little enthusiasm.
With Mike and Eleven in a relationship, and Lucas and Max’s romance fully realised, could one of the couples break down, causing even more tension?
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait too long to see the real context of these images.
Stranger Things season 3 arrives tomorrow on Netflix.
