Star Trek attracts fans from all over the world every year to dedicated conventions about the show and movies. It has its own language, Klingon, as well as catchphrases which have had fans living long and prospering for decades. But the timelines of the various films and series can be confusing at times, especially for those starting their journey at the beginning.
The best way to watch the Star Trek movies and series
It is generally considered the best way to enjoy the Star Trek series is chronologically, starting from the beginning of the timeline.
Others, however, prefer to watch these things in a more jumbled up fashion, focusing on the order of release, meaning the special effects change as the films and series progress.
While doing things in order of release may mean there is a continuity in terms of the SFX, the story will certainly make things a little trickier, as moments will seem out of context when the previous films and series have not yet been enjoyed.

Fans may be thinking at this point there are some missing links, as none of the more recent Star Trek films appear in this list.
However, that is no oversight, as the newer films, directed by J.J. Abrams, are considered to be in an alternative timeline to the series after Star Trek: The Original Series.
In this timeline, known as the Kelvin timeline, the series moves off in a new direction but starring the same characters as the original series, meaning it technically works concurrently, or in an alternate timeline, with the films which followed.
As a result, these would have a separate timeline of their own, and would follow on from the original series.
Here is the list of these films’ chronological timeline:
Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Beyond
