Spoilers: Tim discovers that Geoff badly abused his mum in Corrie?

There are lots more secrets to discover about evil Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) in Coronation Street and with the soap set to delve into his past, confirming that Yasmeen (Shelley King) is not the first woman he abused, Tim (Joe Duttine) is in for a shock.

At the moment, Tim is fiercely defending his seemingly amiable dad, who knows full well how to play the victim. With Yasmeen locked up for fighting back against her menacing husband, Alya (Sair Khan) is determined to prove him as the monster he is.

With Sally (Sally Dynevor) having her doubts about Geoff’s innocence that will grow over time, it will cause divisions between the previously happy couple.

But as secrets from Geoff’s past come to light, is Tim about to discover that his own mum Tess was also abused by his evil father? And will this turn the tide against Geoff?

Ian Bartholomew said of Geoff’s relationship with son Tim: ‘On the face of it it’s very straightforward but I think because he has kept the details of the relationship with Tim’s mother as his own version, it has been airbrushed and is always from Geoff’s point of view.

‘Tim only knows his mother from Geoff’s point of view. There is a whole wealth of stuff to explore.’

Show boss Iain MacLeod added: ‘It would be highly unlikely that Geoff had never committed these behaviours previously. What we have discovered from our research is that perpetrators have a cyclical pattern of behaviour. They lure someone in with lovebombing and grand gestures and that gradually gives way over time.

‘They then move onto someone else so it’s right we look back at Geoff’s previous relationships and see he has done this before. We will really explore Geoff and Tim’s backstory. It’s a good opportunity to find out about Tim’s family background. Lots of family saga stuff to come.

‘Tim has been gaslighted since birth so he and Sally are on separate sides and there are tensions that are created as they have polar opposite views.’
