IT’S great to see Sheridan Smith back on telly where she belongs – but she could soon be in the doghouse thanks to some close-to-the-bone comments on her new show.
The former Two Pints of Lager actress has a dig at Victoria Beckham and her own fiance Jamie Horn in the opening episodes of dog grooming contest Pooch Perfect, which marks her presenting debut.
In the second instalment, Sheridan pokes fun at Posh’s diet while introducing her canine “trusty sidekick” Stanley.
She says: “He’s the Jay Z to my Beyonce, the Harry to my Meghan and the Becks to my Posh.”
When Stanley barks in protest, Sheridan tells him: “No, you’re Becks, I’m Posh. You couldn’t be Posh the way you eat.”
And in the opening episode, which airs this Thursday on BBC One at 8pm, she explains her love of dogs by saying: “They are so loyal – better than men, aren’t they?
“I shouldn’t say that – my fella’s probably listening.”
A fair concern, as Sheridan recently revealed her Tinder toyboy Jamie joined her on the Pooch Perfect set with their son Billy, who they welcomed in May. She told The Sun’s TV Mag: “In between me playing with dogs and having a lovely time, I was breastfeeding.
“The green room was like a crèche with baby bouncers.”
The show marks Sheridan’s return to prime-time after she took a year off to become a mum.
The former Gavin and Stacey and Royle Family star said: “I have to be honest, I probably would have shied away from doing this as actors hate being themselves.
“But I took a year off, so I thought it was so nice of [the BBC] to take a risk on me when I could have been rubbish.
“I couldn’t have asked for a nicer first job back.”
I think Sheridan’s bark may be worse than her bite.

Kiss is Oak-ay
COP an eyeful of this kiss while it lasts as it may be one of few smooches you’ll see on telly for a while.
Soaps across the land have been trying their best to carry on filming while keeping to social-distancing guidelines.
But Hollyoaks has decided it’s about time we had some snogging, and who better to take on the challenge than actors Nadine Mulkerrins and Rory Douglas-Speed who are, in fact, a real-life couple.
Nadine and Rory, who play Cleo McQueen and Joel Dexter in the Channel 4 show, have been together for three years and welcomed son Reggie in 2019. But it’s not been all plain sailing for their on-screen relationship, as characters Cleo and Joel split in 2018.
Hollyoaks bosses have now decided to reunite the pair amid the pandemic as they’re the only actors who can kiss.
Nadine called for Cleo and Joel to become an item again at the end of last year, saying: “Surely the writers have to get Cleo and Joel back together now? We’re the only ones on set who can kiss! Although, even when we’re on set, me and Rory are still required to follow the social-distancing guidelines, which is funny.”
Other cast have to keep their distance. Clever filming makes it look like Denise Welch and Kelle Bryan are next to each other, when in fact they’re two metres apart.
Count on Kat to beat Chasers
ACCOUNTANTS are, by nature, good with money – and one suddenly has a whole lot more to count.
In tonight’s episode of Beat the Chasers, Kat Glennie-Soares managed to bag herself a very tidy £50,000 by outwitting all five of the quiz boffins.
Kat opted to take on all of them for the biggest jackpot, and triumphed with 20 seconds left on her clock.
Talking after her win, Kat told how she came to be on the quiz. She said: “I watched Beat The Chasers with my partner and I thought, ‘I can do this’.
“I always thought it would be good to go on but never really took it seriously.
“I thought it might be good to prove myself. You never actually expect to get on.
“When I did it was amazing and scary – a lot of feelings at the time.
“I usually win my work quizzes – I’m very competitive. I will rinse my brain to find the answer. I take it so seriously.
“But in general I enjoy quizzing, so we’d done quite a lot. It helps you with fast-paced answering, which is good.”
MICHAELA Coel and Richard Ayoade are the bookies’ favourites to become the fourteenth Time Lord after Jodie Whittaker quit the BBC1 show.
The Chewing Gum star and the IT Crowd actor lead the field, with Michaela at 5/1 to be the next occupant of the Tardis and Richard at 6/1 .
Jim grovels to wife over crazy NYE
JIM Davidson would have needed plenty of ibuprofen after his New Year bender.
The comic necked spritzers, margaritas, tequila, whisky and wine – and ended up being ordered by fifth wife Michelle to crash on the sofa.
In a public video, he grovelled: “There’s a saying, when you’re out drinking, a gorilla takes you home. Well, it wasn’t a gorilla that turned up, but another animal, the old me – how I used to be when I drank a lot.
“I’d had a few drinks before dinner, a few spritzers. I then had a couple of margaritas, and after about three or four of them I thought I’ll just drink the tequila. I thought I’d better not have any more of that, so I had Scotch instead. I had red wine with dinner.
“I broke the front door. I threw a plant pot. I woke up on the sofa. I went and got in the spare bed. I want to apologise to my wife Michelle for being a complete f**king a**hole.”
REBEKAH Vardy has been tipped to win Dancing On Ice by co-star Graham Bell – even though he’s only seen her skate once.
The Olympic skiing legend has said WAG Becky – wife of Leicester City’s Jamie – would be a “safe bet” as the skater to lift the trophy at the end of the ITV series.
It’s heating up in ITV2’s new cabins
IT may be cold outside but it’s all starting to heat up in The Cabins, as the romantic hopefuls begin to cosy up with their partners.
In just the second episode of the new ITV2 dating show, we clapped eyes on some of our first kisses.
Tom and Olivia smooched under blankets watching the sunset, while Charlotte and Sarah shared their first kiss in bed together before falling asleep.
Karaoke isn’t known to be an aphrodisiac, but Abraham still gave it his best shot serenading Sofia.
Perhaps just stick to kissing next time, Abraham.
You’re less likely to hit a bum note.
