Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt in hospital for ‘emergency’ appendectomy

Saturday Kitchen presenter and TV chef Matt Tebbutt is in hospital for emergency surgery to have his appendix removed. 

The TV star shared a photo of himself in bed at The Grange Hospital in Cwmbran, Wales on Tuesday, while hooked up to a drip. 

Matt told his followers: ‘Me, a morphine drip and an emergency appendectomy are keeping me from a much anticipated lunch at @manteca_london with @ollysmith @sarah10016 @hardiegrantuk ….but everything and everyone here at The Grange hospital in Gwent have been fantastic.’ 

Praising the NHS, he added: ‘Couldn’t ask for more from such a brilliant health service So grateful. #nhs #nhsnurse #thegrangehospital #appendectomy.’ 

TV chef Shivi Ramoutar passed on her well wishes and commented: ‘Oh no!!! Get better soon Matt. Still looking bright eyed though.’ 

BBC News presenter Naga Munchetty said: ‘Get well soon xx.’ 

Presenter Cat Deeley quipped: ‘Morphine with a GnT chaser 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.’

DJ Sara Cox had similar thoughts as she added: ‘Woah! Matt! Hope you’re feeling better. Hope @ollysmith has swapped out the morphine in the drip for a nice Malbec? xx wishing you better matey #nhs.’ 

Chef Andi Oliver wrote: ‘Babe!!!!! Bloody Nora! Get better soon my love! Thankgod you’re ok!’ 

Food Unwrapped host Jimmy Doherty said: ‘Hope you are ok – liquid lunch for you then! X.’ 

Just days ago, Matt had celebrated the return of live TV after Christmas, sharing a photo from Saturday Kitchen with the caption: ‘What a cracking start back to live shows… @elviscostello #legend and @freddybirdfood @we_are_food @knackeredmother #foodheaven @bbcfood #morningwine #thankyouforthemusic.’ 

Matt, 47, has hosted the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen for 10 years since replacing James Martin, while he also fronts Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped.
