Rylan Clark-Neal self-isolating, will miss two weeks of Strictly: It Takes Two

Rylan Clark-Neal will miss two weeks of Strictly: It Takes Two after coming into contact with somebody with coronavirus.

The 32-year-old confirmed that he is self-isolating after somebody he has been in recent contact with tested positive for Covid-19.

However, Rylan himself has tested negative.

He tweeted: ‘I found out this week that someone I have been in recent contact with outside of work has tested positive for coronavirus. I am therefore now following the government guidelines and having to self isolate.

‘I have sought a Covid test and thankfully that has returned a negative result.

‘That does mean I will miss the next two weeks of Strictly It Takes Two and my BBC Radio 2 Saturday show.

‘I look forward to being back soon and wish all the couples good luck for this weekend.’

Rylan later added that he ‘paid privately to have a test to make sure there was no immediate risk to my work bubbles’, and told fans to ‘stay safe’.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse was among those wishing Rylan well, leaving a heart emoji under his post.

Strictly: It Takes Two will go ahead on weeknights on BBC Two; it is unclear whether Zoe Ball will now take over the full schedule or if Rylan will be replaced with a guest.

The Big Brother star joined the Strictly spin-off last year, and to accommodate social distancing guidelines, Zoe and Rylan split their hosting responsibilities across the week.

Rylan was at the helm on Thursdays and Fridays, with Zoe in charge for the first half of the week.

It had been hoped that the duo would be back in the studio together towards the end of the series.

Strictly has had to make major adjustments to ensure it can safely air during the pandemic, with the couples forming bubbles.

All of the group dances were shot earlier this year, when the professionals formed a household over the summer, while the live audience was scrapped when the nation’s second lockdown was introduced.

Meanwhile, frontrunner HRVY’s place in the competition was in danger when he tested positive weeks before the show was due to begin.

Thankfully, the popstar recovered before training began.

The live show will return on Saturday night.
