Queen of the South: Will King George return to Queen of the South?

Queen of the South: Alice Braga teases season five filming

Queen of the South’s American fanbase was treated to the fourth season in 2019 on USA Network and then around a year later, the series was released globally on Netflix. Season five started filming in March 2020 but due to the coronavirus pandemic, shooting soon had to come to a halt. Filming resumed though and is now around midway through creating the new episodes, according to producer David T Friendly who took to Twitter to make this announcement.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Queen of the South.

King George (played by Ryan O’Nan) was welcomed into the drama during season two as a loud mouthed smuggler.

Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga) and James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) were instructed to make a deal with him by Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcon).

The drug smuggler was rude and obnoxious, making sexist jokes one after the other.

He didn’t take Teresa seriously but the more he got to know her, the more respect George had and they soon started working alongside one another.

George’s time with Teresa came to an abrupt end when he left in the early days of series four.

After being seriously injured, George shot Tic Toc (Moses J Moseley) as a mercy killing which then prompted him to want to change his life.

With Teresa’s blessing George left New Orleans for Belize, even asking Birdie (Chelsea Tavares) if she wanted to join him.

Birdie gratefully declined and so George went off by himself and didn’t feature in the rest of the latest season.

Will King George return to Queen of the South?

Ryan O’Nan, who plays King George, worked as a co-producer on series three of Queen of the South.

So he became an important figure both in front of and behind the camera.

His decision to leave the drama was down to O’Nan starting work on Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

While he has got another couple of films in post-production, according to his IMDB, the actor will be back for Queen of the South in 2021.

His IMDB profile page states O’Nan will be back as King George this year, which is amazing news for his fans.

O’Nan also shared pictures of himself on set with the cast and crew of Queen of the South.

There hasn’t been any hint as to how or why George will be returning from Belize or even how long his comeback is going to be for.

Nevertheless, O’Nan is going to star in season five when Queen of the South does premiere.

As of yet, no official release date for the new episodes have been announced.

For the four previous seasons, Queen of the South has begun in June.

If everything goes to plan in terms of the filming schedule, this may be the case again for season five.

Queen of the South is available to watch on USA Network and Netflix.
