Actor Cillian Murphy has teased season six of Peaky Blinders will have a more “gothic” feel. The final season will be followed by a feature film set to begin production in 2023 and fans are desperate to see what’s in store for his character Tommy Shelby.

Cillian, 45, is not one to talk about Peaky Blinders’ spoilers, but he has taunted fans by teasing the final TV instalment will be pulling no punches.

The Tommy Shelby actor recently let slip he thinks the season six finale is “going to be very intense”.

Speaking on how influential the music is to the 1920 show set in Birmingham, he gave a few teases about the new outing.

“The word we keep using is ‘gothic’. Yeah, it’s going to be heavy!” he said.

Fans have been waiting patiently for the new cycle to drop, with season five premiering way back in 2019.

On New Year’s Day, the official Twitter account for Peaky Blinders released a trailer, and fans lost their minds.

Thousands of the show’s viewers immediately started to like and comment on the post captioned with: “One last deal to be done. Watch the final series of #PeakyBlinders, coming soon on @BBCOne and @BBCiPlayer.”

Diehard fan Kloe wants to protect protagonist Tommy at all costs: “DONT WANT TO SEE TOMMY DIE THIS SEASON I JUST THINK I WONT BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT PLEASE PROTECT MY BABY.” (sic)

Staying in all caps, fans shouted theories and excitement on the social media platform.

Mina supported the late actress Helen McCrory: “THE PAIN I GET SEEING THIS TRAILER WITHOUT AUNT POLLY.”

Hidden between the humorous memes and friends tagging each other to ensure every show lover did not miss a single second of the new footage, a few negative tweets stand out.

James said: “Such an overrated series, the characters are what has made this show as big as it is. They are great but so poorly written.”

For a quick recap, the closing scene of the last season of Peaky Blinders saw Tommy running into an empty field, where a vision of his deceased wife, Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis), was waiting for him with a black horse.

She encouraged him to take his own life, telling him: “The work’s all done, Tommy. It’s all done. We can walk away from all of this. It’s so easy and so soft. Such a small change.”

Taking his gun and holding it to his temple, he screamed before the screen cut to the show’s credits.

With the Irish actors lips firmly sealed, fans are desperate for any morsel of information about season six.

Fans might not have to wait too long for season six as new cast member Conrad Khan told Radio Times: “From what I last heard – I mean, these things change so quickly – I think that will come out next February, the beginning of next year.”

In terms of which characters will be returning, Cillian will reprise his role as Tommy, Paul Anderson is back as Arthur Shelby, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, and Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne.

Sam Claflin will return as politician Oswald Mosley, and a BBC One clip alluded to Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons return.

Peaky Blinders seasons 1-5 are available on BBC iPlayer.
