Paul Hollywood’s ex-wife Alex diagnosed with skin cancer and blames years spent as a Scuba instructor in the sunshine – The Sun

PAUL Hollywood's ex-wife Alex has revealed she's been diagnosed with skin cancer and has urged her followers to check themselves for signs of the disease.

The cook, 54, called the news "no big deal" in her announcement on Instagram but did describe it as a "wake up call."

She posted a video in her kitchen with a plaster covering part of her nose and told fans she had basal cell carcinoma.

Speaking to camera, she said: "It did freak me out at first. A specialist sorted it out straight away and very painlessly.

"Everything's going to be fine and go back to normal."

And beside the video, she wrote: "So here’s the thing.. I wanted you lot to see this because I know that we’re all scared of the C word.

"I’m lucky, this is no big deal but it’s a bit of a wake up call and payback for those years I spent poolside and mucking around in boats as a Scuba instructor, in and out of the water with little or no sunscreen!

"We all need to be more self aware, so with that in mind – I really hope you’ll all have a good look at yourselves tonight in the bathroom mirror – and if you’re not sure about something .. go see your GP!"

At the weekend The Sun On Sunday revealed Paul is set to fork out £5million to Alex as lawyers prepare to finalise their acrimonious divorce deal within weeks.

The baker — who is dating barmaid Summer Monteys-Fullam, 24 — is worth around £10.5million.

Alex's legal team have been raking through his accounts, published this week, which show the Bake Off star earned £9.1million last year.

The mum-of-one has been advised she is entitled to half his fortune, which is bumped up by around £1.5million thanks to various assets including houses and cars.

She has also been assured she will keep their £2.4million marital home.

Last night a source said: “Alex’s lawyers have been forensically poring over these latest accounts.

"After weeks of stand-off and wrangling, things are drawing to a close. They expect to finalise the divorce in eight weeks.”

The 53-year-old star’s earnings for his business PJH Media are down £1million from the previous 12 months.

Losses include writing off nearly £100,000 off the value of his fleet of cars, now worth £259,000, and £173,000 in tax and social security bills.

He also forked out £337,000 in owed money.

But another of his companies, Paul Hollywood Ltd, saw its fortune rise £300,000 from £1.5million to £1.8million.

Paul also recently signed a new £2million, two-year deal to continue presenting the Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

And he has a range of baking mixes and icings and income from cookbooks.

In August, Alex cited “adultery” for the breakdown of the couple’s 20 year marriage, but any suggestion of cheating has been denied by Paul. Accordingly, Alex has not named anyone in the papers.

Georgina Hamblin, Head of London Family at top divorce lawyers Vardags, said: “In England and Wales, the starting point in a case like this is that Paul Hollywood and his wife are considered equal.

“The home-maker — especially if children are involved — is deemed to have made a full contribution to the marriage and therefore entitled to half of everything.

"It is not just his companies that will be taken into account — it is the whole honey pot. This means the assets will be split too.”
