Noel Fielding concerns Bake Off viewers as he withdraws from show mid-episode

Fans were left worried after Noel Fielding pulled a disappearing act during last night’s episode of the Bake Off.

The quirky presenter had fallen ill suddenly and had to take a timeout, meaning he didn’t get to see the contestants putting together their showstoppers.

Matt Lucas let viewers know his co-host was “feeling a little under the weather” as he took over the reins.

Despite the comedian filling Noel’s large shoes pretty well, the audience was troubled by his absence as many loyal fans flocked to Twitter, with one writing: “Where was Noel at the end?”.

“I didn't see Noel in the clip for next week? Sooooooo is he ok?” added a second.

A third chimed in to ask: “Also what the f**k happened to Noel Fielding??? He just disappeared after the adverts. What?”

Earlier in the episode, which is the GBBO’s debut German week, the funnyman left fans baffled as he adopted a faux German accent.

They couldn’t believe what he’d done given one of the contestants, 56-year-old Jurgen, is actually from Germany.

On this week’s Germany-inspired episode, the bakers were tasked with whipping up a batch of German biscuits and a Prinzregententorte.

Created to celebrate Prince Regent Luitpold, who reigned between 1886 and 1912, the traditional Bavarian cake is made of eight layers of sponge – which stand for the eight administrative districts of Bavaria from that time.

On top of that, the contestants had to produce a yeast-leavened cake for their showstopper, which Noel’s mystery illness forced him to miss.

After a conflab, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith sent Freya Cox packing when she failed to wow them with her efforts.

The vegan baker’s upside-down showstopper had been heavily underbaked, leaving her exposed to criticism.

The 19-year-old wrote a letter to fans after the elimination, gushing about their support throughout her spell on the contest.

In the sweet letter, shared on the show’s official Twitter page, this year’s youngest contestant said: “This was the best experience of my life”.

“I feel genuinely blessed to have had the chance to share my love of vegan baking with the world”, she added.
