NCIS’ all-new spin-off series will focus on the Hawaiian Islands and follow a team of Naval Criminal Investigators. NCIS Hawaii is set to premiere on CBS later this month and ahead of its release, actress Vanessa Lachey shared the emotional moment she landed the lead role.
Taking to Instagram, the star posted a video of herself in the car in a puddle of tears as she filmed herself saying, “I just found out, I got the job!”
She continued: “I’m so happy,” as she broke down in tears.
Vanessa then turned the camera to her 4-year-old son, Phoenix Robert, who was sat in the backseat and stated: “We’re happy, right?! He doesn’t know what we’re happy about!”
The actress initially announced she landed the role as Special Agent Jane Tennent earlier this year, in April.
This is set to be a trailblazing moment for Vanessa as she will be the first female lead in the long-running series.
NCIS first aired on CBS in 2003 and became an instant hit, with fan favourite Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) as the Special Agent in charge.
In 2009 the first spin-off NCIS Los Angeles was created, with a second in New Orleans following suit in 2014.
Now with 18 seasons in the bag, will be the first woman to be named the Special Agent in charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor.
In the video, Vanessa was on her way to her best friends house and as she arrived, the actress was a blubbering mess as she informed her friend.
In between her tears, she blurted out: “I got the job!” as her friend jumped and exclaimed: “Oh my god,” before they continued crying and shared a heartfelt hug.
In the caption, she wrote: “I remember the day I got the call ‘You got the job!’ I will never forget it! Dreams do come true.
“One week from today, our show premieres and I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity. My life is changed forever,” she shared.
When her role was first announced in April, Vanessa gave fans an insight into her character and stated: “A woman in a male-dominated profession, she’s thrived in a system that’s pushed back every step of the way through equal parts confidence and strategy.”
Deadline described her character: “She’s also a mother raising her children mostly on her own and has to balance her duty to her kids and her country.”
Alongside Vanessa, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Tori Anderson and Jason Antoon will also be starring in the Hawaii based crime series.
Fans took to her comment section to share their exhilaration for the upcoming show, one wrote: “I’m Def gonna watch the show now (love heart emoji) your reaction, thank you for sharing this part of yourself!”
Another shared: “This reaction is so pure and beautiful. Congratulations! I am definitely looking forward to seeing your project come to life!”
A third disclosed: “I cannot wait to see you in your new show! Wishing you much success!”
“I’m so happy for you but you made me cry happy tears,” a fourth confessed.
Thankfully for viewers, a full-length trailer was released, which promises some intense series ahead.
NCIS: Hawaii will premiere on Monday, September 20 on CBS.
