Love Island: The Reunion ‘cancelled’ in wake of Caroline Flack’s death

Caroline Flack, 40, was found dead in her flat on February 15 after taking her own life. ITV made the decision to cancel Love Island: Unseen Bits on the same day and postponed the following Sunday’s episode out of respect. The winter Love Island series will also not be getting a reunion show in the wake of Caroline’s death.

The Reunion has a long-standing tradition of letting the contestants reveal some of the backstage secrets.

It also gives the couples a chance to publicly air their grievances against their partner in the show or just those that got their backs up whilst in the villa.

However, it has now been reported by The Sun Online that the show’s first winter series won’t be airing a reunion special following the death of Caroline.

The publication states: “ITV insists it wasn’t cancelled because there were never any plans for it to happen this year.”

Express.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment regarding Love Island: The Reunion.

The spin-off show has been a staple part of the show since the end of series three in 2017.

Caroline Flack hosted the reunion last summer following the summer 2019 series, which saw a rather awkward exchange between winner Amber Gill and her Love Island ex Michael Griffiths.

But Love Island bosses have decided not to have a reunion for the 2020 series, which saw Paige Turley and Finn Tapp crowned the winners.

Instead, they will be focusing on the dating show’s summer series which will see a whole new bunch of singletons fly to Majorca to find love.

Caroline’s family confirmed the news of her death in a statement, which read: “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

“We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”

Last year, it was announced that Laura Whitmore would take over presenting the new winter 2020 show after Caroline decided to step down.

During last week’s final, a tearful Laura introduced the show and dedicated it to the late TV presenter.

Many viewers were left shocked at the weekend as Paige and Finn pipped favourites Siânnise Fudge and Luke Trotman to the post.

Laura revealed fans had voted for Paige and Finn to win but many viewers were furious they’d taken the crown and took to Twitter to comment.

A third commented: “How did Paige and Finn win when I’ve seen far more Luke T & Sianesse supporters everywhere #loveisland.”

“Siânnise and Luke T confirmed that the best couples don’t win this show, just look at them #loveisland,” added another.
