Love Island fans fuming as text is replaced by voice note in opening show

Love Island fans were left fuming during the inaugural episode of series seven on Monday, as the show underwent a major shake-up.

The girls and guys were gathered for drinks outside and getting to know each other a bit more when the bombshell dropped in – with Toby the one to receive a message.

It was, of course, from new girl Chloe Burrows – but viewers were more distracted by how he announced receiving the message.

Although Toby initially said he'd got a text, he quickly followed it up with "I've got a voice note!" as he realised what kind of message Chloe had sent him.

Typically, the Islanders receive a text which they then proceed to read aloud to the others.

But in the switch-up, it was Chloe voicing her thoughts out loud.

Chloe left Toby a message that said: "Hey boys. How are you? Chloe here. I’ve just arrived and I’m outside the front of the Villa. I’d like to take you all on a date but I’ll let you guys decide who wants to come and join me. Hopefully I’ll see you soon."

And fuming fans flocked to social media to vent their frustrations, with one posting: "'I've got a voice note' LOVE ISLAND WHAT IS THIS?"

"'I've got a voice note'? I don't like it!" another ranted, while a third fan fumed: "SORRY WE'RE DOING VOICE NOTES NOW???"

Someone else chipped in, in the spirit of Mean Girls: "Thinking about #LoveIsland trying to make a voice text happen."

"Bring back 'I got a text' – not here for this voice note nonsense. Voice notes are for 5 minute rants, not bombshells," another angry viewer posted.

Chloe's appearance in the villa is set to shake things up – as she will be asked to choose one guy to couple up with, leaving one of the other girls single.

It comes after the initial couples were all chosen, leaving Sharon with Hugo, Liberty with Jake, Shannon with Aaron, Kaz with Toby and Faye with Brad.

Poor Hugo and Toby were left "rattled" as none of the girls stepped forward to say that they fancied them – but they got to pick regardless, despite being momentarily relegated to the subs' bench.

And with bombshell Chloe thrown into the mix – who confessed in her VT that she has a thing for "married men" – it won't be long until one couple is broken up.

Chloe confessed to having an "affair" with a married man who she "still drunk texts" at weekends – but later cleared up that it wasn't a full-blown affair.

She told Daily Star: "I found out he was married and that was the end of it.

"It wasn’t like I found out he was married and was like, 'Yeah, let’s crack on’'. As soon as I found out he was married, that was it."

She added: "It wasn’t an affair. As soon as I found out he was married, he was dumped."
