Hollyoaks Gary Lucy admits he felt like a pop star during height of TV fame
Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy had revealed that his early TV fame felt like the closest thing to "being a pop-star".
Soap star Gary, 39, has played the good-looking and energetic Luke Morgan in the Channel 4 soap on and off since 1999.
He first joined the cast in 1999 until 2002, when he left the show for over 10 years before rejoining the series in 2017.
At one point, his character was made the centre of a controversial male rape storyline on the show, which left his character struggling with depression and even attempted suicide.
However, he was also known for playing the role of ladies' man and footballer Kyle Pascoe in ITV drama, Footballers' Wives – between 2002 and 2004.
Appearing on ITV's This Morning, Gary opened up about his early showbiz fame around the time of his roles in Footballers' Wives and Hollyoaks.
He was joined by his Footballers' Wives co-stars Laila Rouass and Ben Richards – ahead of the show's return as it will be available to stream on Britbox.
Presenter Ruth Langsford asked Gary what kind of fan reactions he used to get when he would go out, around the time of Footballers' Wives.
Gary explained that he first noticed how famous he was when he would go out and do regular public appearances ("PAs").
Gary said: "I think that was when I first noticed it… going on the PAs back in the day.
"I enjoyed every moment of them."
Gary went on:" The response was just ridiculous. I mean, I suppose it was the closest you can get to being a pop star at that time.
"People used to go mental.
