Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck Mediterranean revealed that she used to call Captain Lee Rosbach from Below Deck for support when she was filming.
Hannah Ferrier used to call Captain Lee from ‘Below Deck’ while she was filming
Ferrier recounted the stress of trying to balance expectations from being on the show and Captain Sandy Yawn’s demands. This included crew nights out, which she said the crew had to do, whether they felt like it or not. So after a long night of partying, Ferrier liked to give her stews a few extra hours of sleep.
But Yawn didn’t see it that way, which put Ferrier in a tough place. That’s when she’d remove her mic, leave the boat and call Rosbach.
“He’s the best, I’ve spoken about our friendship before, but sometimes with Lee, I would just walk off and de-mic myself,” she recalled on her Dear Reality, You’re Effed podcast. “And then go call him at the cafe near the port. And be like, ‘Lee I don’t know what to do, I’m trying my best. How do I do this, what do I do? What do I say?”
“He’s like, ‘OK Hannah’ in his American accent … take a breath,” she continued. “So he was such a good little coach for me.”
Captain Lee expressed support for Hannah Ferrier in the past
Rosbach has been supportive of Ferrier in the past. He seemingly came down on her side when she was fired for having prescription Valium and a vape pen on the boat. Plus, he also didn’t agree with how the cabins were handled during Below Deck Med Season 5 when Malia White’s boyfriend arrived.
“If a couple comes on, hired on, that’s one thing,” he said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen shortly after Below Deck Med Season 5 wrapped. “But if it’s broken up and all of a sudden somebody just shows up, to inconvenience other crew members, that may not want to be inconvenienced, I don’t go along with that.”
He also shared his views on the crew having anxiety medication while on charter. “If it’s legally prescribed meds by a licensed physician, we are not doctors as captains,” he said. “God forbid we should deny somebody their prescriptions meds and something bad should happen. It would really get ugly.”
‘Lee kinda gets it,” Hannah Ferrier says
On the podcast, first officer Eddie Lucas and Ferrier discussed what happens behind the scenes that can sometimes impede their job. They said production often selects beach locations that sometimes may not be conducive for an actual beach picnic. Also, they are obligated to party in the clubs during crew nights off, which can make their job extra exhausting. Lucas said Rosbach plays the reality game, whereas Ferrier recalled Yawn being more demanding.
“That’s the biggest difference between Lee and Sandy,” Ferrier said. “Is Lee kinda gets it. He understands there’s this whole thing going on in the background and not everything is gonna run perfectly all the time. Because you don’t want it to run perfectly, cause then it’s boring f**king television.”
“Whereas Sandy wanted perfection at every step of the way,” which is why she didn’t like me,” Ferrier said. “I am far from perfect [laughs].”
