The video introduces Henry Cavill as Witcher Geralt, Anya Chalotra as sorceress Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri, who is said to be a child with ‘extraordinary’ gift.
AceShowbiz -Here’s the official sneak-peek video of Netflix’s “The Witcher“. The highly-anticipated adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novel series was presented at San Diego Comic-Con in Hall H on Friday, July 19, during which its first teaser trailer was debuted.
Also released online, the video follows Witcher Geralt (Henry Cavill), whose fate will somehow be intertwined with sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and the mysterious young Ciri (Freya Allan). “This child will be extraordinary,” a man tells Geralt of Ciri, while a woman tells Ciri to “find Geralt of Rivia.”
“You can’t outrun destiny just because you’re terrified of it,” a man also tells Geralt, warning him of his imminent fate, “It’s coming.”
The video also features elves, who are key part of the lore. “When humans and monsters arrived, elves taught humans how to cut chaos into magic,” Geralt says. “And then, the humans slaughtered them.” There’s a glimpse of a war with Nilfgaard Empire, which apparently comes to conquer the Northern Kingdoms because of Ciri.
The teaser trailer ends with a shot of Geralt, whose eyes turn black, standing in the forest and getting alerted when a monster comes out of the swamp.
“The Witcher” is set in a land called the Continent that was invaded by demons from a parallel dimension, which also gave rise to a breed of monster killers called Witchers. “He’s not your average hero,” Cavill said of his character Geralt at Comic-Con. “He’s a tough person who won’t treat everybody perfectly. He’s very hard on the exterior because that’s what he believes the world is… and all the decisions get him into trouble.”
Meanwhile, “Yennefer is on a journey on self discovery,” according to Chalotra. She added, “We look at her power and also her vulnerabilities, which make her a true survivor… She’s on a quest to find unconditional love.” In the books, Yennefer is Geralt’s longtime lover.
Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich additionally told the crowd what the story is actually about. “What’s great about ‘The Witcher’ is that it’s so much more than a fantasy. Really it’s a story about a family,” she gushed.
No premiere date is announced yet for the first season of “The Witcher”.
