David (played by Matthew Wolfenden) has been in a relationship with evil Meena (Paige Sandhu) for a while, but nobody has any idea about her murderous ways. Her most recent Emmerdale victim was 18-year-old Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger), whom she pushed off the village bridge and left for dead. She has recently been keeping an eye on Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) after noticing – accurately – a spark between the pair. David ended up saving Victoria’s life by pushing himself in front of a raging Russ on Thursday’s episode of the ITV soap. But as he lay on the ground injured, it seems he was trying to admit to Victoria that he wished it was her he had been with, instead of Meena. Although Meena wasn’t there, it’s likely she will somehow find out that David risked his life for Victoria – and she won’t be pleased. Will she use her knowledge as a nurse to interfere while he receives treatment in hospital, and kill him?
Meena is aware there’s something between her boyfriend and Victoria and has been trying to sabotage their friendship.
She went as far as abducting his young son Theo (Beau-Ronnie Newton) from Victoria’s care and pretending she found him wandering around alone.
It wouldn’t be unlike her to be left furious once she learns of David’s heroic actions, and she will probably seek immediate revenge.
David could be taken to the hospital she works at, and in a moment of rage, she might see this as her opportunity to make sure David and Victoria never end up together.
Meena might head to David’s room and murder him, knowing she can probably get away with it using her professional knowledge.
“Why did you have to do that, jump in front of me like that?” Victoria tearfully asked David as he fought to stay awake.
“I’d do it again,” David weakly replied.
He added: “I need you to tell Jacob, my dad, all of them – I love them.”
“No, don’t do that,” Victoria cried. “David, you can tell them yourself – there’s going to be ambulances out there.”
David started to say something which sounded like he was going to confess his love for Victoria.
He told her: “I wish me and you could have-” but soon became unconscious as a heartbroken Victoria tried to wake him up.
David’s teenage stepson Jacob Gallagher became terrified that he might lose David as he was being carried into an ambulance.
“Jacob, your dad’s a hero,” Victoria said. “What he did for me – I’d be dead if it wasn’t for your dad.”
A crowd of people heard Victoria’s comment, so it won’t be long before Meena finds out exactly how David became injured.
He was also at Victoria’s workplace as she told him to drop by to use the scanner they had, which is how he ended up being caught as a hostage.
But Meena has been telling David to keep away from Victoria, so she’s bound to be furious that he was even there in the first place.
It wouldn’t be hard for the villainous hospital worker to halt David’s life-saving treatment and pass it off as him dying from his injuries.
She seemed to get away with Leanna’s murder very easily, lacing herself in the investigation but avoiding any suspicion.
Would she go as far as to kill her own boyfriend just to hurt Victoria?
Fans of the ITV soap would probably believe so, as she has proved she doesn’t care about anyone but herself.
She hasn’t shown any remorse over Leanna’s death and displays signs of being a sociopath.
In a jealous frenzy, it wouldn’t be out of character for her to kill David.
But could this finally be how she is caught out? Viewers have been eagerly awaiting her downfall since Leanna was killed, and Meena has since pulled other nasty schemes.
She murdered Leanna because the teenager found out that she had killed someone from her past, so fans also want to know the details of this first murder.
But will this be the end for village favourite David?
Or could Meena’s plan fail her? If he does survive, he might even be able to recall the incident – and this might be the way in which the road finally ends for Meena.
Fans will have to wait over the weekend to find out David’s fate.
Emmerdale continues on Monday at 7pm on ITV.
