Dan was a guest on the Channel 4 lunchtime chat show Steph’s Packed Lunch on Friday (June 18). Baker John Whaite, who appears on the programme to cook, made a very cheeky joke which left Steph McGovern apologising to an embarrassed-looking Dan, who quipped viewers don’t get that kind of thing on BBC Breakfast.
John had been wearing a Scottish kilt and an England shirt in preparation for Friday’s Euros match, which will see the two UK teams playing against one another.
At one point, Steph noticed the 33-year-old wasn’t wearing the traditional Scottish clothing properly, asking: “Has our John got his kilt on the right way?
Gail Porter replied: “No,” she laughed before adding: “But it looks nice.”
“And I’ve got a clip here to put it in place because it’s not quite my size,” John explained.
“I saw that, yes,” Gail added.
Steph asked: “And also if you are into equality, what about the welsh dragon?”
John then made a comment which sent the guests into hysterics, replying: “That’s curled up in my knickers, love.”
Steph put her head on the table and laughed and the studio cheered.
The 39-year-old host turned to Dan to say: “I’m sorry Dan – sorry Dan.”
Dan, 44, had his head in his hands and was looking away as Gail asked: “This is live, right?”
Dan commented: “You don’t get this on BBC Breakfast, do you?”
Viewers quickly took to social media to tweet the show about how funny they had found John’s joke.
One said: “@PackedLunchC4 This should be on after 9pm…”
Another wrote: “You do all cheer me up every day. Thank you all and John you actually made me choke on my lemon meringue pie with your cheeky knickers comment.”
“Watched for the first time, Gail porter not on TV enough think she’s great as for John the chef he is so funny, overall a great atmosphere and feelgood show,” a third commented.
Another fan simply wrote: “@PackedLunchC4 I love John.”
Steph’s Packed Lunch launched in 2020, and sees the presenter speaking live to celebrity guests, providing recipes and chatting topical headlines.
Steph used to work on BBC Breakfast herself before leaving in October 2019.
She later moved over to Channel 4. Steph had been working at the former for eight years and said she had “loved” her time with the BBC.
Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
