Camila is a friend to Gabi Cañero-Reed and her children. As a result, when she caught Bobby in a “moment” with one of his tennis friends, she took it upon herself to help him navigate his sexuality.

Camila is one character from the Disney+ original series, ‘Diary of a Future President’
Diary of a Future President primarily followed one middle school student, Elena Cañero-Reed, on her adventures pre-becoming the president of the United States. There are also characters like Camila, who is a close friend of the Cañero-Reed family.
Camila, portrayed by Jessica Marie Garcia, is a paralegal who lives with her girlfriend. However, she’s not exactly ready to tell her parents about his relationship. As a result, she had to build a second bed in her apartment to hide that she was gay during one episode.
“She is hiding a huge part of who she is,” Garcia said during an interview with People. “Camila is gay and has a girlfriend that she can’t come out to her parents about because they are kind of old-school.”
Camila wanted to help Bobby during ‘Diary of a Future President’ season 1
Camila is out to her friends and co-workers. Another character worked on embracing his sexuality during season 1 — Elena’s older brother named Bobby, who is known for being “chill” about most things. As a result, Camila took it upon herself to create a safe space for this character, mentioning RuPaul’s Drag Race and Bobby’s friend Liam.
The actor herself has been married to her husband of over 10 years, and does not identify as a member of the LGBTQ community. Still, she shared that she is portraying Camila with “such respect.”
“I’m stepping in on new ground for myself, but I do understand what it’s like to be different,” Garcia said of her character. “I’m doing it with such respect. Love is love, and it’s not difficult for me to understand what it is to love another human.”
Disney introduced other characters who are members of the LGBTQ community
Camila is one of the first openly gay characters featured in a Disney series, helping Bobby navigate his relationships and sexuality. However, she’s not the only openly gay character from a series on Disney’s streaming platform.
Seb and Carlos from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series started their relationship during season 1 of the mockumentary, even attending the Homecoming dance together. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Carlos is only the second gay regular in a Disney series; the first was Cyrus (Joshua Rush) in Andi Mack.
Additionally, Disney announced LeFou in the live-action Beauty and the Beast was also a member of the LGBTQ community, later sharing another character in Disney and Pixar’s Onward mentioned her girlfriend.
