Dan Walker hints hes "in talks" with Strictly bosses to allow him to watch golf

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker fears that he could miss out on the Ryder Cup due to his upcoming appearance on Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC presenter is an avid golf player and fan, but he'd set to appear on the hit BBC dancing show which could clash with the major golfing tournament – meaning he could miss out on all of the action.

It comes as Strictly returns to our screens on Saturday 18 September and the ballroom competition will be entertaining the UK masses for weeks.

However, it conflicts with the 43rd Ryder Cup held in Wisconsin, America, which is broadcast between 24 and 26 September.

Appearing on his BBC Breakfast show on Monday morning (13 September), golf fanatic Dan revealed that he was "in talks" to try and avoid missing out on watching his beloved golf matches.

Dan had been discussing the latest golfing news with BBC sports presenter Sally Nugent, when she decided to tease her co-anchor.

Knowing the Dan's Strictly stint would likely clash with the golfing coverage, she cheekily asked him: "One of your big plans for the year is to watch how much of the Ryder Cup?"

A rather flustered-looking Dan insisted that he was taking steps to avoid missing his beloved golf despite being set to take to the dancefloor.

Referring to his Strictly stint, Dan said: "Well… I've got something else on as well.

"But I'm already… I'm in talks to make sure I can fit things around my Ryder Cup plans!"

Dan then burst out laughing as Sally fired back: "Yeah, good luck with that!"

Later in the show, Dan was grilled by his co-host Louise Minchin for missing out on her leaving party.

Louise had pointed out that he didn't turn up for her big celebrations, and it turns out that Dan was busy working on Strictly ahead of the launch show on Saturday.

Teasing Dan, Louise said: "You were busy doing Strictly."

Dan replied: "Well not busy, I had to. You know what it’s like."

The awkward on-air moment resulted in Louise continuing to tease her co-anchor and Dan protesting his love for her as an on-air partner.

Dan told Louise: "I had to meet my new Strictly partner. And the reason – lots of people are saying ‘why have you met your partner already?"

Louise quipped: "Oh so you’re finding a new partner already?"

Dan had gushed: "You’re aware of my love and devotion to you Louise."
